Q: Greetings Chris! how is your strategy to build speed with any technique? Your playing is just just just badass!

A: Hello! Thank you! My general approach to building speed is starting at a slow tempo, but also being aware of the note to beat ratio. In other words, I will set a beat for say 100 bpm, then work on an idea using 8th notes (2 notes to the click) 16th notes (4 notes to the click) triplets (3 notes) and also 16th note triplets. (6 notes) or perhaps 8 notes to the click (32nds) etc etc. One thay are all comfortable, I increase the tempo by jumping way ahead sat to 144, I will blast through that tempo while attempting to keep it together! Then I click back to somewhere around 110 to 115, and find that just as easy as my starting tempo, say 100. This was exactly how I build the spped for the Abigail's Crossing intro! I hope this helps!
