Patty Reese Hosts SAW's weekly Tuesday Night Songwriter Series at The Old Town Theater, bringing you the best and brightest talent in the Mid-Atlantic. This weeks featured artist: Lynn Hollyfield! Blend a powerful singer, crisp acoustic guitar player and a heartfelt observer of the world and you have singer-songwriter, Lynn Hollyfield. Her style of music can be described as an "indie-folk-pop" (Leicasterbangs, UK) with a little touch of blues and jazz. The resulting blend~her own voice mingling wit, a smoky sweetness and thoughtful reverie to her songwriting and performance. Hollyfield’s newest recording, In the Balance, is a compelling collection of 12 originals with an underlying thread of finding the delicate balance in life-summed up in the title cut. Hollyfield worked with Producer, Marco Delmar and supporters/fans of a Kickstarter campaign to put the music of In The Balance, out in to the world. www.lynnhollyfield.com Carey Creed: "Carey Creed has a golden voice and sings of the human spirit, the 'never give up and never give in' attitude…[Her latest CD] asks you to reflect on life, and it makes you smile." (WAMU's Lee Michael Demsey) Carey has garnered six top vocalist Wammies from the Washington Area Music Association, and multiple First Place honors from the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest. Both her new "Small Braveries" and previous "Peace of Wild Things" CDs on the Azalea City Recordings label have won Wammies and have charted on the international folk DJ list-serve. Carey sings her heart out at folk concerts, festivals, and retreats, sometimes accompanied by stringed instrument phenom Mark Sylvester, and other times with hammered dulcimer goddess Jody Marshall and with lovely singer-songwriters Lynn Hollyfield and Mary Gordon Hall. "Carey's great singing touches me deeply in my heart. Not only does her music entertain me, it transports me to deeper places in my soul. Hers is the kind of music that drew me years ago and is the kind that keeps me coming back." - Herb Levy, Venue Host, FocusMusic.org Mount Vernon concert series http://careycreed.com/creed/ Mary Gordon Hall: Mary Gordon's debut cd, “Wine Glasses & Wooden Spoons” (2006), finds her in the richest expression yet of both voice and songwriting talent. Receiving radio play coast to coast, radio host and singer songwriter Christine Lavin said, "Her voice is gorgeous, her arrangements surprising. It's so obvious when I hear a voice like Mary Gordon Hall's, I know she was born to sing. A beautiful, beautiful album." Mary Gordon has had an opportunity to share the stage with such premier musicians as Jesse Winchester (even got to sing What Makes You Strong with him!), Kate Campbell, Christine Lavin, Cheryl Wheeler, Tom Prasada-Rao, Cosy Sheridan, Bob Franke, Anne Hills and David Roth. A regular at the Swannanoa Gathering in Asheville, North Carolina, students and instructors alike seek her out for her incredible harmonies. In August of 2011, she retired from teaching and moved from the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia to Hyattsville, Maryland, seeking a larger folk music community and to become a full time singer/songwriter and songwriting teacher. http://marygordonhall.com/index/
