Brandin Reed / Press

“If you’re in search of some summery campfire acoustics, Brandin Reed is worth a listen. The up-and-coming singer-songwriter is fresh off the release of his self-titled LP, an 11-track collection that ranges from loose, rustic pastorals to wistful soft rock. The record was written after the sudden passing of Reed’s mother last year, inspiring him to make the album he’d long dreamed of. It follows 2016 EP Restore and 2011 short Live at Roots.”

“The Dallas-Fort Worth area always seems to have an inexhaustible supply of country and alt-country singer/songwriters. Some, like the vastly overrated Pat Green, find their niche hamming it up with the frat-boy crowd and singing about every cliché in the book. Others, like Dallas' Brandin Reed, stick with sincerity and introspection and hope to eke out a career. Live at Roots is Reed's debut EP, a five-song example of the guy's commitment to quality songwriting and sturdy vocal and guitar chops. Some may focus on the fact that Reed also happens to be a minister, but there are no overtly religious overtones to songs such as "Breeze" and "Float." Quite often, music that's labeled as Christian or spiritual is often pulverized by its own message. Thankfully, such is not the case with Reed. Sounding like a combination of Chris Isaak and Ryan Adams (at his most friendly), the songs on Live at Roots are hopeful expressions of making it through a single day or moment....”

“Brandin Reed brings melodic original music to the pulpit Singer-songwriter Brandin Reed grew up in Lakewood Calif, and later in Portland, Ore., before moving to Dallas in 2004. You can hear some of that surfside California pop-soul sound on "Breeze," the first track from Reed's just-released five-song EP, Love at Roots. His style also encompasses beat-heavy folk-rock with plenty of piano-fortified pop melodies smoothing out the proceedings. Reed is currently a minister of music at DFW New Beginnings (3000 W. Airport Freeway) in Irving. For him, worship means time for music. You can hear him perform tunes from Live at Roots and many more at DFW New Beginnings on Oct. 26 at 7pm., Oct. 30 at 10 a.m., Nov. 4 at 7 p.m., Nov. 6 at 10 a.m and Nov.13 at 10 a.m. Admission is free for all the dates. If you miss one of those, do not worry. Reed is currently solidifying his fall schedule of local shows outside of the church. Keep up with him on his website, www.brandinreed.com.”
