Kick-ass sport. And a whole lot of girl power. Welcome to the world of Roller Derby. This new, underground sport in Durban has grown over the last two years, after it was launched in Johannesburg, South Africa in 2010. Two teams, Eve’s KanEvils and the MissFits, are followed during this 24-minute documentary to explore and capture the dynamic sport through different perspectives. Their personal experiences and insights are shared on the perception of the evolving presentation of women’s identity within the sport. DON'T NEED YOU: THE HERSTORY OF RIOT GRRRL (2005) The story of the origins of Riot Grrrl in the American independent music scene of the 1990's, and how this feminist movement evolved into a revolutionary underground network of education and self-awareness through music, writing, activism, and women-friendly community. THE CULTURE SHOW: GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS (2015) At the height of the punk explosion almost 40 years ago, a handful of women completely redefined what a woman in music could do. Through sheer talent and fearlessness they pushed themselves on to a male dominated music scene and became part of a movement that radically changed the cultural landscape. Miranda Sawyer meets up with Viv Albertine and some of the other key female figures of the era including Chrissie Hynde, The Raincoats, and punk anti-heroine Jordan to look at how they inspired a generation of young women with the notion that anyone could do anything if they wanted to. Plus she explores whether the punk spirit still survives today.

Bio: Black Math are an energetic 3 piece band that blend garage rock, alternative rock, blues and punk with a good dose of physcadelic rock thrown in. Theirs is a sound that is in-your-face and ballsy with influences stretching as far back as the sixties. They have an explosive stage presence packed w...See Full Bio
“Black Math are three pieces of dank rock ‘n roll talent...and as innocent as little lambs but close your eyes and you’d see a music video of dangerous looking leather-heads jamming up a frenzy inspired by the beauty of a wasted youth high on Zeppelin. Sure, it’s not a new sound, but the way those kids play together taking rock ‘n roll riffs and blowing the shit out of them at such an early age promises that they have the means to really progress in their style. I love a band that picks up a crowd and turns the place into a dance hall purely driven by their energy. The drummer is self-taught and tight as hell. Vocally, something tells me that the front man’s voice has not entirely, erm, broken but it’s hardly the point when you watch him play guitar; commanding and conjuring up such dirty feedback and interesting arrangements. The bass player is an all out maniac who makes use of a nice big stage, running and jumping throughout the performance, getting us all amped to move”
