I wanted to share a little bit about my upcoming March 2022 music project release titled GHOSTS OF LAUREL CANYON. When I first moved out to Los Angeles in the summer of 2021, after a lifetime of living in my native state of Virginia, I used a lot of my spare time to complete a number of new songs I had been working on. I decided to use them as the basis of my new project.
Originally, I planned to title the new project DREAMS IN CALIFORNIA, a symbolic way of referring to songs I had completed after moving to California. Something changed. I usually drive through Laurel Canyon about once a week on my way to and from various places. Every time I drive through there, the history of the place as a creative mecca for musicians and other artists in the mid-to-late Sixties and early Seventies always came to mind. Along with memories of the great musicians that lived there and performed and recorded nearby. Folks like The Byrds, the Mamas and the Papas, the Monkees, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell and so many others. In other words, the “Ghosts of Laurel Canyon”!
Thus, the change in the title. So now the seven songs on this project (GHOSTS OF LAUREL CANYON, THE WEEPING TIME, IF I ASKED, LISA LAN, WITHOUT YOU, FAREWELL and RANDOM ACTS OF BLINDNESS) all evoke the folk, folk-pop and folk-rock sensibilities from that musical era. You will hear echoes of many of the individuals and groups that made up that scene. And, as is usually the case with my projects, there is plenty of that jingle-jangle sound of the mighty Rickenbacker Electric 12-String guitar and sweet harmonies.

Bill Kaffenberger, an East Coast native of Virginia and recent transplant to Los Angeles, was raised on the Sixties music of groups like The Byrds, the Buffalo Springfield, Bob Dylan, Gordon Lightfoot and a host of others in the folk, folk-rock and psychedelic rock genres. He has a number of genre-spanning CD/Digital Download projects in release, including the most recent: A LONG GOODBYE, WHERE WE BELONG, JINGLE JANGLE MORNING, THIS WORLD IS BOUND TO FALL and several others.
