Matinee show with Astrid Young and Ray Farrugia
It's a full band show! we'll be kicking off the famous annual Hike Haliburton Festival with a folkin' night of music. Featuring the awesome lineup of Astrid, Matt King, Matt Davies and Dan Cornelius.
Astrid Young has shared stages and studios with a mind-blowing roster of musical legends. She wrote a bestselling book, made a short film, played or sang on a ton of records, and is also a wine professional (sommelier). She’s a singer songwriter who’s style has been described as somewhere between David Bowie and Black Sabbath, and sometimes like Karen Carpenter on acid. Her most recent release, One Night at Giant Rock, was co-produced with Victor DeLorenzo, a founding member of the iconic folk-punk band The Violent Femmes. She slings a 12-string guitar like a weapon, and tonight she’ll be joined by her band, which includes cousin Matthew Davies, guitar and bassman extraordinaire Matt King, and Junkhouse/Lee Harvey Osmond drummer Ray Farrugia. "The emotion in her voice is unmistakable as she powers through a few tracks while giving others a wonderful soulful sheen. Artistically, the lady mixes in funk, pop, country, folk and more - all with evocative lyrics. There a musical surprise around almost every corner."
