Killing the Calm / Press

“Caesura opened the night with a solid performance like no other that we have ever seen from them. They set the tone early, along with bringing Casi McCall from InLike to do a duet. They announced a name change to “Killing the Calm” and will no longer be known as Caesura. Jack Nasty took home Bassist of the year, and he showed on stage exactly why he won that award. The whole band was energetic, on time, and was performing at the peak of where they have developed to since coming back on the scene after a brief hiatus to retool the group and choose their direction.”

“A single band spanning half the alt-rock genre: From chill melodies reminiscent of 311 or Incubus to thundering drums and bass that define modern metal, Caesura works as a team of chefs constructing a sonic gravy that covers and soaks the listener in heavy melodies, crashing drums, and soaring vocals. Accented by a subtle underlying bassy funk and familiar progressions Caesura's ingredients include angst, depression, fear, and a cautious optimism that seems to underlie each track. It's a great total package that appeals to fans of everything from prog-rock to death metal. I highly recommend it to fans of anything on the heavier side of the alernative genre. ”

“Caesura Abstract Clarity The winners of Heavy Frequency Magazine’s award for 2007’s best new band crank out serpentine guitar lines and alternating melodious/screaming melodies. There’s more than a little Tool in its DNA, along with heavy doses of Stone Temple Pilots’ pop aspirations and Thursday’s menace. Abstract Clarity boasts some pretty nice hooks, especially in the anti-suicide anthem, “I Say,” or “Pulse,” which creates a propulsive tension from a lithe, almost lilting guitar rhythm with a deceptively simple riff laid on top. The shifting time signatures of “Backburner” and hot and cold lurches of “Parallel Sun” offer several moments of genuine surprise. The title track, running almost eight minutes, is the album’s defining moment. Its almost-epic midpoint breakdown is mysteriously evocative, before building to a satisfying, energetic crescendo.”
