The Waters-Julia, Maxine, Oren & Luther / Press

“The Pet Shop Boys - A lot of the backing vocals are performed by the Waters, who’ve worked with pretty much everyone. They’re kind of legendary. We love the history of Los Angeles; I’m very interested in the Wrecking Crew and all that stuff. So to draw on that history was amazing. The Waters, you know, they told us how they’d sung with the Jackson Five, and they worked on “Thriller.” But they also worked on Adele’s “21” and they’re touring with Neil Diamond. They work all the time.”

“By: Christian John Wikane A few days, ago, I had the PLEASURE of interviewing Julia Waters and Maxine Waters. My very first memory of their voices goes way back: "If I Can't Have You" by Yvonne Elliman. They sang back-up on the song (along with Marti McCall). I just always loved the texture of their voices on the track. To me, they're an essential part of the song's climax ... the way they sing those chords right before the last chorus. Such a distinctive sound, and a nice complement to Yvonne's lead. (Side note: I also had a chance to interview Oren Waters and Luther Waters. Details TBA!) "If I Can't Have You" is very high on the list of my all-time favorite recordings. So much to love in those three minutes!”

“Think you’ve never heard of The Waters? Listen again! I first saw them live at a Neil Diamond show at The Forum…Julia and Maxine are the voices behind Diana Ross on “Someday We’ll Be Together” If you’ve ever listened to vinyl records or CD’s, watched television or gone to the movies you have heard one or more of the voices that comprise “The Waters” – Luther, Maxine, Julia, and Oren – a family group raised in Los Angeles, grew up in a rich musical environment orchestrated by their mother Lorena who was quite a vocalist in her own right. Their voices have been heard on more recordings than anyone in the music industry, contributing to hundreds of gold and platinum records. On February 20, 2014, in a gala event at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the group received the Ella Voice Award of the Society of Singers in recognition of their contributions – both individually and collectively – to virtually every genre of the entertainment industry.”
