Having recently married and made the move from Brisbane, Australia to Gainesville, FL, I now find myself starting my live music pursuits literally from scratch. Gainseville is a thriving hub of quality live music, avid listeners and supportive venues. There are such opportunities presented within the local and regional live music community that I’m itching with anticipation and excitement.
My greatest decision in life to date has been to pursue a path I couldn’t live without having tried – although my preconceptions of my situation told me otherwise… life doesn’t throw opportunities your way for no reason. This site doesn’t exist as a platform for me to philosophize or politicize even more of the web. There’s enough of that already. Instead it exists, like I, to affect change that is lasting, profound and effective… to challenge, to invoke a conversation, to address injustices and shortfalls in society, to speak for those whose voice isn’t heard, and most equally important…ly: showcase some rippin’ original music.
With a rich foundation of piano and theory knowledge, I found myself playing in school, youth and church bands during primary and high school. I picked up playing the guitar in high school and busked with it around the world during my gap year. On my triumphant return to normal life, I found that I still had what people kept on calling ‘the bug.’ after a hard but short stint at uni, I rolled of down to Kinglake, Victoria to assist in the bushfire rebuilding and relief efforts. I tried my hand again uni but was soon driving around Australia with my best mate and guitar for another year. After a trip to Europe, I decided I should finish what I’d started and get my degree dusted. I set up and started teaching piano and guitar between gigs and uni. Of course, it wasn’t long before I met an amazing young lass from Florida and was traveling between Brisbane, Australia and the states every few months to maintain the best relationship we could manage. … Although this brief but headlined view at my life features a whole lot of moving around and not much staying still, the music played, created, collaborated, recorded, busked and gigged has been with me the whole way. Music has been an invaluable companion over the years, allowing a self-expression and fostering creativity I doubt I could have otherwise attained.
