Glassbeard's sound has been described as "smooth groovy rhythms with introspective lyricism and a sprinkle of classic rock with styling ranging from ambient folk pop to jazz rock". Our music is an abstract expression of the human experience and these songs are just our contribution to the great mystery. Glassbeard is a group of musicians from Lockport and Morgan City, LA. who, in 2010, began meeting at an apartment in downtown Thibodaux once or twice a week to jam, write, and drink followed by walking to Renee's Bar and drinking until they were all merry and gay. In the midst of their shenanigans, Glassbeard managed to write twenty or so tunes about life, love, ladies, & rabbits. Eleven of those tunes will be featured on their upcoming self-titled debut EP.
If the name Glassbeard must be explained, then the tale of Captain Dwight Sigsbee and the Kraken must be known. Glassbeard was a brave young lad who left his home upon the shore to find his own version of home. As his raft made of bear lungs was chumming the sea and about to be eaten by the evil Kraken, a golden chariot did appear; it was Captain Sigsbee! He summoned his three mermaids of fire to behead the evil beast. Once severed, the head bled a dark wicked liquid. This liquid would later come to be known as the Kraken Rum. Captain Sigsbee and his three sea nymphs took a liking to the young Glassbeard and made him first mate. For many years they would brave the seas and slay any beast beneath its waves. One fated night, upon a turbulent ocean, Captain Sigsbee was blown from the bow and sank to the deepest point in the gulf, later to be known as Sigsbee Deep. The captain had found his resting place. This saddened young Glassbeard as he would have to go forth alone. The Tale of Glassbeard reminds us to overcome strife and always hunger for the unknown depths of our shallow existence.
