“Dexter Lee & the Prophets, We Are (Reverb Nation) August 1, 2014 by: Brett Milano 0 Comments 44 Dexter Lee & the Prophets, We Are, OffBeat Magazine, August 2014 The part of me that grew up on Grand Funk Railroad is digging this Baton Rouge power trio’s debut, particularly the parts where they kick out the jams and do old-school power-trio rock without apologies. “Phoebe” opens this half-hour album with one of those “pay attention now!” type guitar licks, and the rhythm section double-kicking behind Dexter Lee Manuel’s lead vocal and riff-slinging. The chorus of “Love is like a drug”—love, of course, meaning sex—is exactly what this kind of song demands. The disc’s other full-tilt rocker, “For Your Love” is just as energized and just as hormone-driven (love in this case means even more sex: “Baby you know what I like / just getting’ it tonight”).
