RUTH NAOMI GOOLSBY, BORN JUNE 3, 1977 IN St. Louis, MO, is one of Gospel Music's most prized up and coming hidden treasures. With the ability to write, sing, play several instruments, arrange vocals, engineer, and more, she stands out as a fierce force to be reckoned with.
Ruth started singing with her mother at age of 5 and took a liking to “crazy chords” around the same time. Stemming from 3 generations of female musicians, the bug to begin playing piano bit Ruth early in life. In 1991, the Lord, as it seems almost instantly, anointed Ruth to play the organ at her home church in St. Louis. Their musician resigned and the Pastor knew that Ruth had an interest in playing so he told her to get on the organ and sit there until something happened. Out of obedience, she sat there and within 5 months or so, she was playing as if she'd been playing for years. It was evident that she wasn’t just gifted, but anointed and called for this purpose.
Behind the scenes, Ruth has been personally linked to many of today's top artists either through singing background, songwriting and/or playing. In 2001, Ruth was appointed by Professor Iris Stevenson, former President of the Church Of God In Christ Music Department, as the Musicians Coordinator for the International COGIC Youth Choir, under the excellent directorship of Jacky Clark-Chisholm of the renowned Clark Sisters. Today, she still serves under the leadership of Dr. Judith Christie-McAllister in the COGIC National Music Department as one of the Sounds Of Levi and she’s also one of the Chief Levites for the International COGIC Youth Choir. Through her COGIC roots, Ruth frequently presented original songs for the National Choir and Youth Choir, pinning her by her Levitical constituents as, “the one you could count on to present a hot song”. Her style showcased a sound that many called futuristic. Currently, Ruth is serving as the Minister of Music/Worship Arts Leader for 3 amazing ministries in Houston TX, as well as focusing on her personal musical career. Ruth has several songs on different independent efforts around the country and hopes to reach greater pinnacles of success with broader exposure as well as more opportunities to share the Gospel of Jesus with her own unbelievable testimony.
In addition to writing, Ruth Goolsby has an impressive resume of background vocal work. She was featured on the latest releases of Kurt Carr, Pastor Shirley Caesar, LeAndria Johnson, Ami Rushes, Eraka Sasser, and several others.
Look for more exciting work from this dynamic producer, who happens to fully produce her own music. Yes, everything… from the background vocals to literally every single instrument. There is room for such a gifted and anointed vessel in this genre, a multifaceted asset that is primed to indent history.
