If you’re scene is a blood soaked arena of warriors battling to the brink of extinction for the chance to wear the crown of supremacy, then you will be excited to hear that it’s almost time for the 2013 Heavyweight Battle of the Bands. This contest has been around for many years in West Michigan and pits the year’s top selling acts against each other in an all-out, knockdown drag out war of sound and show. It’s encompassed as 4 round throw-down at the Intersection in Grand Rapids, MI which will begin on Friday, January 11th, 2013. Out of all the applicants that have submitted their press kits, 18 semi-finalists have already been handpicked by West Michigan’s elite talent buyers and executives. The bands that have been selected to represent their respective musical genre in the battle will compete in 1 of the 3 semi-finals to decide the top 6. Those 6 bands will meet each other in a final showdown which ultimately will inaugurate the winner as this year’s most promising talent as the Heavyweight Champion. Music is not about competition or contests. This battle is not to prove that one sound, style or genre is better than the other. This competition is not for bragging rights or to prove who works the hardest. This contest is a celebration of people who recognize their gift in the ability to share their joy, sadness, pain, excitement, anger, love and respect for fellow man in their music. This audacious menagerie of absolutely breathtaking music and performance is meant to support local music. This symphonic cage match is in honor of the commitments all West Michigan musicians make to take time out away from their families and friends, to create the music they feel in their soul. Remember these are local musicians they aren’t being paid signing bonuses to record songs and tour consistently. Most of them scrap to find time to write and perform their music in between their “Day-Jobs” working to support families, attending school or just trying to survive. So when you hear about this “Contest” on the radio or in your news feed or from the lips of a friend. Consider this an opportunity to come out to, at least, one of their shows this year. They write their music for you and anyone else who will listen. They wear their heart on their sleeve in each song trying to reach out to you. You can give something back to them; something so easy to give you won’t even realize you’ve given it …your appreciation. 2013 Heavyweight Battle of the Bands (Rock, Metal, Screamo, Nu-Metal, etc…) Semi-Finals: Friday January 11th, Friday January 18th & Saturday January 26th, 2013 Finals: Saturday February 9th, 2013 Doors at 7:00pm Tickets $5 & $10 respectively The Intersection 133 Grandville AVE SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
