Unconfined by geographic boundaries or cultural norms, Adepeju Dawodu wanted to take Gospel lovers on a journey where they haven’t gone before—at least not on the same album. In her debut CD, “M.I.H.,” she does just that, moving from the traditional drumbeats of Africa to a series of genres popular in the United States. From one song to the next, listeners hear praise music in Nigeria’s Yoruba and Ibo languages, then contemporary Gospel in English, including touches of hip-hop and jazz.. Ade (AH-day), as she is often called, has given worship music a universal feel. “I am a psalmist, a prophetic voice to the nations,” Ade says. “My goal is to sing and affect the lives of people, to set them as the victors they are in Christ.”
