BarNtone Presents: Paddy Keenan, King of the Pipers An untouchable legend, Paddy Keenan has been called both the John Coltrane and Jimi Hendrix of the Irish Bagpipes. Generally acknowledged as the most accomplished uilleann piper performing today, Paddy is one of the most brilliant musicians of his generation. The uillean pipes are bellows strapped around the waist, pumped by the elbow. Their tone and wide range of notes is sweeter and quieter than their Scottish cousins. Paddy's flowing, open-fingered style of playing can be traced directly from the style of great travelling pipers. Both Paddy's father and grandfather played in the same wild and free style of piping. He is known well beyond traditional Irish music circles as a solo artist and as a founding member of the groundbreaking Bothy Band. The Bothy Band forever changed the face of Irish traditional music, merging a driving rhythm section with traditional Irish tunes in ways that had never been heard before. "In Irish music there are legends and legends and then there's Paddy Keenan. Paddy Keenan's playing is now at its peak." - John O'Regan, Rock'n Reel Paddy Keenan Friday, April 1 The Tavern at The Williams Inn Doors 6 pm, come early for dinner and the best seats Music 7:30 $15 donation at the door, RSVP required
