Q: Being a female musician, do you feel that you have been accepted as such and do you feel like the music industry has truly accepted female musicians in the music industry? Williams Mosley, Indiana

A: Williams Mosley, wow, thank you all the way from Indiana! First of all, I am the most humble person in the world. I never let my experiences, places, things that I have done, or events that I have played at get to my head. I do feel accepted NOW. Earlier on in my career as a younger musician, I didn't feel as accepted and to be quite honest, I had a lot of interesting things to happen to me as a musician that I don't think would have happened to me had I been a GUY. Many people have mixed feelings, even today, for my choice to follow my heart into pursuing a music career, but again, I can't please everyone so therefore, I try to please God and ask him to put me in the places, next to the people, and around only the areas of where I will be able to grow as a Musician, a Songwriter, and as an Artist...The music industry has started more and more utilizing female musicians, and I feel like artists like Prince, Beyonce, Kid Rock, and many others have all shown that women can hold down a stage just like a man. I don't brag, and never boast, but I get that all the time...statements like "You Play Like A MAN..." If that is a compliment, of course, I will take it all day, smile....But, it does bother me sometimes that people look at me and ASSUME that because I am a female, I can't play...My latest adventure that I really love to comment on is the fact that I am the first FEMALE Musician for Mr. Bobby Rush, a legendary Blues, Soul Singer with a lasting career of 59 years so far! Mr. Rush has always had females in his show, but not as musicians and I am proud to be the first...Change is always a plus and the more and more that women players are being used shows me that our world is finally starting to become more and more unified! Thank you so much for your comment and for making me see that accomplishments come at any size! Kim Tibbs
