Velvet Razor

"Hard Rock, Sleaze Rock, a bit of Punk and some Power Indie Pop, all thrown in to a blender and then turned up loud" was one reviewers take on the band and they aren't far wrong. Another said: "Born out of a government cold war experiment to create new rock gods by using DNA collected from the back of Mick Jagger's car, splicing the essence of British & American rock... ...a chimera of rock was created." very funny and colourful way of saying that they have influences and great love for some of the very best rock bands. The band tries hard to be accessible, not to be pretentious or too proud, but they do play with a bit of swagger. Whether they are playing in tiny venues like the Robin Hood pub in Guildford, the Native Tongue in Epsom or on the huge 2nd Pro stage at a music festival to thousands they always give their all. You know by the end of the gig the band is going to have bleeding fingers, they're going to covered in sweat, and they're going to have shredded vocal chords. Velvet Razor was formed in 2003, that same year they released their raw debut analogue album "The Day the Earth Rocked" out to the indie rock scene. Then they toiled away the next few years in the dark, dank and sweaty clubs of London and the South-East After a few personnel changes (new drummer and new keyboard player) they regrouped and their second (more polished) release was in 2006 - their 4 track EP the "The Razor's edge - The Garden Studio sessions" was born out of a few beer and whisky fueled long weekend at Garden Studios Guildford. The EP received favourable radio play and reviews. Following this release the band cut their teeth at a number of summer festivals notably including Guilfest (a festival they frequently played at for many subsequent years on the 2nd Pro stage). Warm up act over the years for rock legends: Blue Oyster Cult, Hawkwind, Joe Bonamassa and The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown as well as Pop heroes: Ash, Dodgy, The Wonder Stuff & Hazel O'Conner. The next Release was in 2008 entitled "The Wyvern EP" recorded at WSC Studios Bury-St-Edmunds. After some more personnel changes in 2009 (Bassist and Drummer) they regrouped for the band's next two releases in 2010 - an EP entitled "Rainbow Warriors" quickly followed up also in 2010 by "Hex" both releases promoted by QuiteGreat PR -"Hex" layers Dave Kent's (Velvet Razor's: Singer/song-writer/guitarist) – yowling rock mini-anthems with crowd-pleasing melodies to turn out an album highlighting rock with a message (and sometimes with a sprinkle of humour). With stand-out tracks like "Do you dare to lie," & "Lover's Lament" spreading to radio airwaves far and wide. Velvet Razor's latest release is "Stonehenge Welcomes careful drivers" released May 2017. Velvet Razor is a proven, energetic and entertaining live band and an interesting addition to any rock music lover's music library. Their works are on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and CDbaby.
