Up in the Air Band

Up in the Air blends elements of structure and improvisation into musical styles as varied as folk, pop, dixieland, bluegrass, latin, and worldbeat. The result is a fresh and dancable musical experience with a conspicuously multi-cultural sound. Featuring the extraordinary singing of Crystal Bradshaw; the Jethro Tull-type flute work, and Santana-like guitar leads of David Singer; the song writing, guitar, and keyboard playing of John Beccia;; and the rock solid rhythm section of Mike Milanesi on drums; Phil Gross on bass; and Victor Rocha on congas, timbales, and percussion; Up in the Air performs original songs that are upbeat, melodic, and lyrically relevant. Over the years the band has played at many community events including SLO’s Concert’s in the Plaza, Paso’s Concert’s in the Park, Atascadero’s Concert’s by the Lake, Rio Seco Winery Fun Fridays, Castoro Cellar’s Lazy Locals Summer Concerts, and at the Beaverstock Music Festival. They have also performed at many community events like the SLO’s Earth Day Fair, Atascadero’s Day of the Oak Celebration, SLO’s Garden Festival, Paso’s 4th of July Celebration at Barney Schwartz Park and various fundraisers for the Heart Association, the Cancer Support Network, Hospice, ECOSLO, etc. In the early days they also performed numerous times at Linnea’s Cafe, at the World Famous Dark Room, and as part of the old Concert inthe Park series for KCBX. Additionally, they have played live in studio at KSBY TV, on KCBX public radio and at the old radio KOTR station in Cambria. They have performed for audiences of up to 2000 people as well as many small, intimate crowds. Up in the Air’s recorded material spans almost 3 decades on it’s 12 CD’s, Groovemeisting(1987- 89), Loose Gravity (1990-91), Watch the Sky (1992-93), In My Bones (1994-95), Connected to the Heart (1996-98), Partners of the Dance (1999-2000), Seventh Heaven (2001-02), 8 Misbehavin’ (2003-04), Genetically Modified (2006-07), When You Open Your Heart (2010-2011), Damn Fine Live (2011), A Matter of Time (2013), Big Storm (2016) Still Out There (2020) and Wanted: Mostly Live.The band appeals to a large cross section of ages and tastes, and has enough original material to entertain at 2, 3, or 4 hour events.
