You hear a couple yelling at each other in a public place. Your ex wants to get back together, but has not changed what made you leave. Perhaps a friend or co-worker does something that bothers you. Maybe you want something from a relationship. All these things may require you to speak your truth. But will you? Being honest is a good thing. You tell children not to lie. Then you have the complicated truths above. And you may talk about telling white lies and other lies. There is a reason for telling the truth and white lies on occasion you might explain. But does the truth come in different degrees? You may always want to be truthful, but sometimes you can choose a truth. The realtor explains the house is cozy, which is true because it is small. It is a truth. You might hear someone say "well, that was a game," which probably means the game was not exciting, but they are being polite and stating an obvious truth. What is your truth? It is opinion that something is right or wrong. Your truth has little to do with right or wrong. It has to do with who you are and what you feel. You may think your friend has become mean. Your truth is that you longer feel safe telling the friend secrets or that she will do something to hurt you. This is the truth. Why is heartfelt truth important? Sometimes you want to tell an element of the truth, or not say anything. Consider your heart, consider another person's heart. If there is no value in telling someone something that may hurt them, find a truth that you can tell. If your heart is not behind that truth, perhaps that is not the whole truth. And if you can not put your heart into anything, then step away. Offer no opinion, change the subject or avoid it. How can I speak my truth? Think about what you want, think about what is bothering you. The couple yelling in a public place may seem like something that does not involve you. They are yelling in public which means you are involved to a degree. When you speak the truth about how their yelling hurts you, and reminding them they are in public if they get upset, you are being true to you. Can you speak your truth? It is not easy to speak your truth, but you will feel better for it. You will know that what you wanted or requested is coming from the heart and not an opinion. This heart based request will hurt more because of its honesty but it brings more honesty back, sometimes in words, sometimes deed. You will have far fewer regrets on what you say or do not say. People will also respect your truth more, because they know it comes with love. Above all, be true to yourself, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it. ~ Hardy D.
