The Shaxe

The Shaxe (pronounced SHAKES) are a central New Jersey based alt-southern rock jam band which was formed in the fall of 1992 by guitarist Mike Liskowitz and Doug Drake, bassist/guitarist Dan Coffey and drummer Brian Impellizeri. All had played professionally for years before finding chemistry in this line up. Any low paying gigs at parties and clubs around town would soon follow. and eventually Sam Simmons, Peter Borg and Tom Stange on percussion, harp and sax respectively would join in the fun. Through out much of the years 1993_1996, the band would play anywhere they could honing their style and borrowing much from the grass roots rock of jam bands such as the Allman Brothers and the Grateful Dead. Their cover repertoire has expanded over the years to include such artists as Springsteen, The Beatles, Elvin Bishop, The Outlaws, Lynyryd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, Phish, Johnny Cash, Cracker STP, The Jayhawks, Tom Petty and the list goes on. Since then, the band has played hundreds of gigs in the tri-state area including popular ski resorts in NY state and Vermont. Lake Placid and Sugarbush to name a few. The band has released 2 studio records; "Walkin Out My Soul" , featuring Dave Dreiwitz from Ween, Greg DiGesu, and Chris Harford among others. -- "Lowdown Overload", and a 3 disc live set entitled Live At Northwoods" which was recorded in Lake Placid where the band has been a local favorite for years. The band is currently working on their third studio LP. In the Fall of 2015 Brian Quinn joined the band. Brian has added a lot more musical diversity adding 12 string guitars, mandolin and harmonica. Also adding searing lead electric guitar and strong vocals. Brian, also a local growing up in Hillsborough NJ, has played professionally for years in the central Jersey area as well as bars in Hoboken NJ. The band is about to play their 21st straight year at the Princeton Communiversity. The bands music has been featured on WDRE Morristown, WXPN Philly, the Pipeline Show out of Trenton NJ as well as several other college stations including WXAC Reading and WPRB, Princeton where they have performed live on air several times.
