The Holy Goats

Like Zep, Crowes, Aerosmith, Humble Pie, Grand Funk, The Holy Goats music is heavy blues-rock guitar. Paul Rodgers, Steve Marriott and Mark Farner inspire the lead vocals. Soulful harmonies recall the Stones’ Exile-era and Humble Pie’s Blackberries.

The Goats have been described by media as “Crowes meet Zep, with a helping of Bad Co, Grand Funk and "VERY Humble Pie like” - says Jerry Shirley of Humble Pie - listen for yourself! Strong songwriting makes their latest release, “Next Round,” distinct and coherent, garnering both critical and radio acclaim. The album charted at #6 in Relix Magazine. Both radio and press named the Goats among the “top original rock bands” in the NY-NJ-PA metro area. "Consistently named Top Rock Band in the tri-state area," says the Aquarian Magazine.

New Jersey.s commercial radio stations WDHA (105.5FM), and The Hawk (105.7), and PA WZZO (95.1FM) all radio hosts selected the Goats as best spotlight original band. Then based on listener voting, the Holy Goats were named first-place in listener voting at all 3 radio stations, and were asked to perform at their various station concert events including radio airplay and live broadcasts of the Goats’ performances.

Soon after, the Goats' earned their fans sharing the stage with rock icons, Paul Rodgers, Peter Frampton, Foghat, The Guess Who, The Outlaws, Marshall Tucker, Little Feat, Mountain, Steve Winwood, Blue Oyster Cult, Levon Helm, Jorma Kaukonen, David Johansen and Gary US Bonds. Hard driving rock is always in style, regardless of trends or fads.

The Holy Goats’ brand of rock ’n’ roll with a straight shot of blues continues in that timeless rock tradition. “The Holy Goats” debut and their 2nd release, “Next Round” which has 11 hard hitting songs like "Something To Tell You" to the ethereal "Look Inside" are available nationally and internationally.  Some American press had spoken of [The Holy Goats] as a mixture of Black Crowes and Led Zeppelin - it was well deserved. We also think obviously of Humble Pie, but also of Bad Co. Comparisons to Led Zep probably derive from the group’s power and riffs.

The two guitars held by Todd McCullough and Pete Scott are huge and enormous and have as much harmony as solos; listen closely to the work of the guitars, it is impressive!

There are no weak tracks on “Next Round.” It fires you up from the beginning to the end. The final song, “Next Round” is speed and rock' roll to perfection! It is unfortunate that this absolutely irresistible group is not recognized more, but if you do not know this group, I invite you to discover it. Jacques Leforestier - 2rockskronicks

THE HOLY GOATS play strongly recognizable guitar rock, invoking the blues-roots of the late sixties and early seventies. Comparisons with THE BLACK CROWES and consorts are quite welcome. THE HOLY GOATS exist in a bubble unlikely to burst in the near future, reviving blues-rock with a fresh approach.

"Temptation" and "Marriott Soul" (HUMBLE PIE) offer hot irons in the fire. Not only the fast-paced title thriller makes "Next Round" appealing, but slow and inspired pieces such as "Homesick Blues" or "What You Do to Me," which are the heartbeat of the album. Add the first class slider, "Every Time We Meet," and you have a first-class, entertaining blues rock album, with lasting compositions.

CONCLUSION: THE HOLY GOATS mark the difference between standard blues and expert songwriters who make twelve bars fresh and rocking at the same time. "Next Round" is simply a good representation of style and white blues that will stand up to the increasing competition well. Dein Kommentar, Musikreviewsde

Humble Pie’s drummer, Jerry Shirley, comments on the Goats’ “Marriott Soul.” The song is a tribute to legendary Humble Pie and Small Faces rock icon, Steve Marriott. Humble Pie heavily influenced the Goats. “It’s really good! It is really Very Humble Pie like, don’t you think? More so than S.F, WELL DONE!! very tastefully done, good luck, like cheers mate JERRY" “HP being humble pie and SF being small faces. Cheers Todd - Jerry Shirley.”

“Hi Todd, it's Mick from Facebook :). You mentioned if I contact you direct here you would send me lyrics for Marriott Soul. Its a brilliant song and even the lead singer sounds like Steve. Great tribute. I love the album too which I will buy soon. thanks for the lyrics. :) I have added the Goats to all the mentioned web site links... ”Ah, this is a magnificent record! Here we finally have a young band staying true to the soul-powered ‘70s with blues-based heavy guitar, strong dynamics, and groove-induced riffs in the spirit of Humble Pie, Zep, The Black Crowes and Free. The songs are top-notch, soaked in the essence of cool retro-rock. The band makes a huge statement in the eleven tracks that fill “Next Round”. It’s hard to believe this is only the band’s second release as the songs are so refined, crafted and catchy. This Jersey quintet may have white skin but their soul is black.” - Todd K. Smith, Cutting Edge Rocks, Author, “Heavy Load – The Story of Free

The Holy Goats, certainly know how to grab an audience’s attention. Their sound is very much blues/rock, with the soulful sexy vocals of their front man Todd McCullough.

One of my favorite tracks has to be “Something To Tell You.” This track had me hooked from the get go, with the awesome guitar riffs and solos teamed with the slinky/hypnotic vocals. This track pushed ALL my buttons. Another track I would recommend is “What You Do To Me.” This song really had me ... and is, in a word,“Sexy.” With blistering guitar riffs and strong smooth bass line, this track pulsed with energy - Helen Hosie, Krash City Magazine, UK

“The Holy Goats - are a nice mix between Led Zeppelin and Black Crowes. The voice of Todd McCullough bears no immediate resemblance to Plant and Chris Robinson as one might think but an equal in his own style with lots of soul. They come from the New Jersey and deserve close attention. With this record, you can dive into beautiful works of guitar riffs and, you can dive into a good history of rock n roll, the real dirt and scratching.

The sound and production on Next Round is a disc to listen carefully, because it's chock full of delicacies. Very nice also are the female choirs. Rock Press 'n' Roll brings you to 'listen to 5 songs! Then you decide if it's worth having in your hands on this Pearl Rock Record!” - Press & Roll – Italy

“Man, what's come up again so suddenly, out of the blue, brilliant for bands from nowhere like THE HOLY GOATS that come from New Jersey and with a very large following of the BLACK CROWES Fans! As The BLACK CROWES take off for an indefinite period, I do not worry because The HOLY GOATS are THEE successors and are ready! Opening 'Next Round' with the riffing 'Something To Tell You', a number that propels the album – 70´s rock n roll with a lot of soul, blues and some gospel inspirations including dominating vocals. 'Marriott Soul' is obviously a tip of the hat to HUMBLE PIE, how cool is that!. THE HOLY GOATS are the first and best candidates that stand in the wings”. -Thomas Schmahl, PowerRock and Metal Magazine, Germany

From the rich opening twang of Something To Tell You to the closing chords of title track Next Round this blues touched, Southern rock album delivers 11 highly enjoyable songs with a very classic rock, very retro, very stylish feel. The whole album is steeped in its Southern rock roots, but there is enough variation to keep things interesting. "Next Round" positively reeks of sour mash whiskey split on saw dust. The songs are performed with an easy and seductive swagger and an amount of self assurance that will get you shaking to the Goats' highly infectious groove. This is an album well worth investing in" Yorkshire Soul, UK

Southern-flavored blues-rock isn’t exactly rocking horse shit and what the Goats present on “Next Round” is defiantly retro but they do it with undoubted conviction and plenty of oomph. Todd McCullough’s throaty voice is as chocked-full of soul as Paul Rogers supplemented by female backing courtesy of Daphna El Roy, songs such as “Time to Recall” take on the same gospel tinge that the Stones and the Crowes deployed to such effect. Meanwhile a deep driving rhythm section and waves of funky swampy slide guitar give solid songs a substantial foundation from which to take off. “Something to Tell You” and “Temptation” are examples of what the band can do and should not disappoint."- Neil B. Leicester Bangs, UK

Described like the meeting of THE BLACK CROWES and LED ZEPPELIN by the media, I must say that the HOLY GOATS is with all this pomp yes. With belts full of the blues and raw and exciting guitars, besides the backings inspired by soul, the band it provides a beautiful travel to the rock n ’ roll of the 70 years. Positively, they are not attached to the past not even to a southern to point of ignoring certain doses of hard rock, for example. In this sense, the production also is still completely very much polished, providing one to enjoy guaranteed listening of "Next Round" in what it is only the second work of this excellent band. The best disc of rock ‘n’ roll in 2011. Heap of the Rock -The Holy Goats -Next Round

Thank God, The Holy Goats have arrived to keep REAL soul-powered rock alive with their superb NEXT ROUND disc. Absolutely outstandingly killer right down to the way-kool lyrics, I can't get it out of the cd player!!!

The First time I heard this album, I thought it had a real sense of cool. The American quartet have produced a blues rock debut and have forged them into a strong set of songs, over which those who aspire to be the Blackest of Crowes would cast an envious eye. "On Your Knees" has a sass and good infectious riff, and the harder-edged "Nothing To Lose" showcases Todd McCullough's whiskey-soaked vocals well. Solid retro songs, well played." - - Steve Swift- Power Play Magazine, England.

This New Jersey-based quintet brings back that hard driving blues-rock sound in a big way. The 12-tracks that adorn this disc boast thick slabs of smoky, rootsy romp and stomp rock ‘n’ roll, as tracks like “Satisfied” and “Clear” are bursting with tasty guitar licks, rollicking bass lines, and throaty vocals. Encompassing retro rock to the hilt, The Holy Goats bring the bell-bottom blues of Humble Pie, and The Faces back to the forefront

“ The Holy Goats take you on a trip back in time when good old fashion rock-n-roll ruled the airways. When the singers had soul and the rhythm section was tight and still walked with a groove. When the guitar players played more than just chords, they were LEAD instruments. All hail The Holy Goats!- Bill Rowan, Rocker Magazine, CA.

  Amazing Debut!

This is a rock n roll band whose music must be heard. Blending rich and soulful vocals, impressive blues-inspired guitar riffs and solos, a tight rhythm section, and a 12 pack of great songs, that will get your rock n roll juices flowing in no time flat. Sounding like the second coming of Bad Company with a dash of Zeppelin, The Holy Goats prove to be worthy of comparisons serving up great rockers, soon to be classics, like “On Your Knees” “Presence of Mind”“Nothing to Lose” “Rock n Roll”.....

The Holy Goats are the type of rock n roll band you’d go see and there would be nothing fancy, just a bunch of guys in t-shirts with some Marshalls and their instruments, they’d plug in and they’d blow you away! If you love listening to good ol’ rock n roll with attitude and want to tap the steering wheel harder on the way home, The Holy Goats are just what the doctor ordered. I for one am dying to hear what the band comes up with next. Tony Sison, All Access -Magazine, CA. USA.

12 Shades of Humble Pie, Foghat, Bad Company, Grand Funk, the 'Stones (the 'Goats do a nice job on"Stray Cat Blues"), color the hard-rockin', funk-fortified, boogie-blues delivery of guitarist/vocalist/bandleader and Chris Robinson-esque (Black Crowes) frontman Todd McCullough. Raunch rawk riffs, gut bucket vocals, great stage command, solid songwriting, soaring leads, a super tight low end make this a kegger band of your dreams. The Aquarian Magazine

Fans of classic blues and blues-rock remain ever hopeful about a revival in popularity of the forms. Listening to the Holy Goats' debut CD, the songs are about loves won and lost, to be sure a blues theme, but the music is also punctuated by high energy dueling guitar solos, energetic bursts of drums and throbbing bass, and great vocal and harmony singing. Every track on the album is a winner.

Their success is due to fans seeking a return to a more traditional blues-rock sound that hearkens back to the great blues-rock bands of the 1970s like Humble Pie, Foghat, Led Zeppelin, Bad Company and other Brits who brought the emotion and excitement of blues back to largely white American audiences in a modified format, often called blues-rock.  Richard Skelly- U.S. 1 News
