Susan SurfTone

Susan started playing the guitar almost immediately after The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. A Hudson NY native, she started lessons with the town's local wedding band guitarist at Osbourne Music Shop at the corner of Warren and Sixth. He turned her on to The Ventures and there was no turning back. Never a singer Susan wanted to be a lead guitarist from the age of nine. She went to college and law school but never lost the desire to play in a rock and roll band. She started working with vocalists in NYC and Rochester, NY. While in Rochester she formed the all-instrumental Susan and the SurfTones. A record deal with Gee-Dee Music in Hamburg, Germany led to four tours of Northern Europe. Susan moved to Albany, NY where Susan and the SurfTones was voted the best retro band of 1999 by the area's weekly alternative newspaper, Metroland. A move to Portland, OR brought tours in California and playing half time shows for the Portland's NBA Trailblazers. Susan also had two original songs featured in MTV's Real World (Season 20) In 2011 Susan started working as Susan SurfTone and recorded "Shore" with producer Steve Kravac. Steve has also played drums on Susan's recordings as Susan SurfTone. "Shore" was followed by "Too Far" in 2013. "Too Far" was featured in the Huffington Post in July 2013 in an article by Mary Pauline Lowry. Susan has just wrapped up the recording of a six song EP with Steve at his studio, Hell's Half Acre in California in March 2014. Susan will be returning to Hudson NY for some live shows and hopefully the filming of a documentary in 2014. Her music incorporates instro surf, '60's garage, '70's punk/new wave and a touch of rockabilly for a sound that is retro yet modern. Susan is endorsed by Daisy Rock Guitars.
