"A touching tale of urban regeneration" STORIES IN COLOUR. "doesn't really matter" Ali B, born in a slippery silvergrey suburb of North West London, moved downtown as soon as he stopped circling the North Circular. He lived in the dodgiest, seediest sediment, heroically sleeping on roundabouts, under bushes, in underground trains but his mediocre, suburban background had poisoned his mind: the mere mention of suburbia screeched so deeply that none of this was living to him. Then one day, an acquaintance who was living in Berlin, called up and said "why don't you come over?" Ali was not impressed; he did not want to leave the nightjob working with psychotic African ex-military - it was great being white trash. However, he packed his bags with misgivings, and bought a plane ticket from British Airways... ...Berlin: living in squats with no windows when it's 10 degrees below zero outside?? bloody luxury compared to that suburban greyness; the greyness of the old East Berlin on the other hand, like a black and white 1950's spy movie, was thrilling. But it couldn't last: the cave-like ruins where B dwelled were closed down and tarted up like wedding cakes, and rent had to be paid. For every slice. More mediocrity. The answer? Stories In Colour: a home-baked, self-knitted, one-man anti-everything machine: fully prepared to sonically stand up and rant and rail against mediocrity and democracy and days gone by. And, days to come.
