Spirited Lads
Stream our studio albums on Spotify, Amazon music and so on. A sprig of green in the desert, the Spirited Lads have emerged from a very unlikely breeding ground for Irish music, that is, the heart of the Sonoran Desert in Phoenix, Arizona. Originally a duo comprising of founder members Tim Whalen (vocals & mandolin) and Jim Hughens (vocals and whistle) the original line up has expanded to include Dublin born Dave McDerry (vocals and tenor banjo), Jon Wolohan (Bass), Heide Hille (fiddler) and Andy Hall (accordion). Their sound is an upbeat and energetic twist on the traditional ballad bands of Ireland (think the Wolfe Tones, Dubliners, Clancy Brothers). Their live shows are known for their energy & fun. They are the hardest working Irish band in the Southwest and have been clocking up 50-60 shows per year since 2015. They are a staple performer at the many Celtic festivals that are held annually in the American Southwest. They have released two albums to date, a self titled offering in 2016, this was followed up in 2018 by Tall Tales and Fond Farewells. In 2020 a third studio album is in the works and there are also rumors of a live album. Like the lads themselves, their live shows are a rollicking good time, big, brash and at times verge on the ridiculous. Check them out at a venue near you! You'll be glad you did.
