Shadowblade

Shadowblade is a progressive heavy metal band based out of Edmonton, Canada -- where the seasons are long, the beer is strong, and some of the most beautiful mountain ranges in North America stand triumphantly but a few hours away. Without a doubt a prime location for the inspiration of beautiful and somber atmospheres alike, strengthened by lyrical content comprised of imagery of nature's overwhelming power, figurative existentialism, as well as anthem-like sing alongs typical of folk influenced heavy metal. Formed in 2006 by Jan (Jasio) Kulakowski with the original intentions of stirring up the Canadian metal scene with styles of power metal commonplace to the European scene, Shadowblade has since evolved both in sound and intent to a progressive phenomenon widely appreciated by fans of very different kinds of music. While maintaining roots in heavy and powerful metal, the intention of Shadowblade's music is to provoke or inspire an emotional connection to the listener and to strengthen the captivation with the mood of the music either by lyrical imagery or exciting musical tangents. This motivation to create music is cross genred and with no doubt has been practiced for thousands of years, though Jan has the creative ingenuity of modern time musicians to thank for creating and helping define a set of ideals towards music that not only entertains, but is equally as self-fulfilling to create. Artists such as Arjen Lucasssen (Aryeon), Jari Mäenpää (Wintersun), Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth) and Vegard Tveitan (Ihsahn) are (among others) some of the technicians responsible for inspiring Jan to create the music he does for Shadowblade, and fans of the aforementioned specifically have good chances of discovering a connection between themselves and Shadowblade's music. Shadowblade independently released their debut full length album "Frozen Serenity" in the fall of 2010 available across the board on internet music distributors, as well as in most music retailers in Canada. With a year of promotion behind the album, Jan is currently working on the pre-production for Shadowblade's second album - due for release in late 2012.
