Rod Elliott

For generations Rod's ancestors, on both his Father & Mother's side, lived in the foothills of the Appalachians in south eastern Kentucky on the banks of the Cumberland River. They were farmers, school teachers, miners, & (MAYBE?) a moonshiner or two. The family on his father's side boast about their relationship to one of this country's noted pioneer & frontiersmen, Danial Boone. Rod's 5th great uncle. His parents, looking for work, left the farm and headed for Chicago. Rod was born a few years later, number 4 of 5 children. When he was 7 years old his Dad and Mom missed the farm life and moved the family back to Kentucky. Unfortunately a few years later the family broke apart and for the next 5 years Rod and his brother would live with their Grandparents on a farm in Ky. near the Cumberland River. Many of his songs are story's about this time in their lives. He wants to try and preserve the family roots, memories, the way they lived, before it's all forgotten. His musical style typically falls in the Americana/Alternative genre...blending Folk, R&B, Novelty (humor), with a country flavor. His influences include John Prine, the late Steve Goodman, Hank Williams, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Elvis, Beatles, Lyle Lovett, Steve Ray Vaughan and more..His musical taste runs from Country to Classical and everything in-between. Rod worked the small club circuit in Chicago and California, but doesn't crave the limelight. His preference would be for an established artist to record one of his songs. He currently has two albums available "Appalachia" and "The Earl Of Old Town" (named after a club in Chicago). Both albums are available here. He currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
