In spite of her chosen instrument’s reputation as pure novelty, and perhaps owing in part to her beginnings as a pianist, Rhonda Roberts has realized within the ukulele an untapped reservoir of sophisticated sound and complexity that provides a pleasantly unexpected complement to her creamy-sweet and sultry vocals. As part of her ongoing songwriting journey-- spanning genres and often blending elements of traditional jazz, cabaret, folk, indie rock and chamber pop --Rhonda seeks to subvert the dominant paradigms regarding ukulele music and continually find new ways to reinvent her sound and performance.
