Oysterband
Oysterband has retired as a touring act (2025). Hello, we’re Oysterband: six people, basically, though sometimes we take other musician friends on tour. We make a kind of modern, folk-based British music, acoustic at heart but not always quiet. We’ve been doing this for a long time, and we’re pretty good at it by now. We’ve made one DVD so far and 11 studio CDs, not counting compilations, collaborations & live recordings; we’ve played in 35 or so countries; we’ve played jails and political rallies as well as festivals and gigs; and we’ve made good friends all over the world. Among our collaborations, we've made two albums with June Tabor: 1990's Freedom and Rain, and 2011's Ragged Kingdom. In 2012, Ragged Kingdom was named Best Album at the BBC Folk Awards, and one of the album's songs, Bonny Bunch of Roses, was Best Traditional Track. June Tabor and Oysterband won Best Group, and June won Folk Singer of the Year. Music hasn’t made us millions, but the trip has been worth it, every step.
