BORN TO BE A MUSICIAN Austin Slack known to his friends and growing fans as “EL NIÑO MAGNETICO” spent the last night of his time in the womb of his mother in a concert, 12 years later nothing has changed as most of his nights at the weekend continue in the same fashion. From an early age music was one of his biggest passions, he has spent his childhood in concerts and listening to music at every opportunity. Born in the UK, he moved to Spain at the age of four and has grown up listening mainly to Spanish artists, at the age of nine he was bought his first guitar a traditional Spanish guitar bought in a small shop in Caravaca. Having had private classes and attending a music workshop with the Animeros of Caravaca his playing skills started to improve. He first got the opportunity to play onstage with Ian Parker who invited him to join him on a song, from that point on his young career has blossomed. His first recording experience came from the band Neuman when he went in the studio in the summer of 2011 to record a part on their latest CD, during the year he joined many groups and artists to accompany them with both guitar and Ukelele. The highpoint of the year was when one of Spains biggest groups Love of Lesbian asked him to join them in Murcia for two sold out shows, during those shows he played various songs with them and many people said that it seemed has if he had been playing with them all his short life. Last year through his friendship with the Spanish indie group Dorian, Austin and his musical adventures came to the attention of Spanish guitar designers “CUSTOM GUITAR LAB”, now after much consideration they have chosen him to represent their company. Maybe with 12 years he could be the youngest ever endorsed guitarist in Spain or possibly the world !!!! As well as specialists in designing and making guitars they also work with artists to create guitars that are unique in both appearance and finish, Austin joins Joan Vinyals and Cece Giannotti, both are endorsed players for custom Guitar lab. Last year the Spanish indie group Dorian commissioned them to produce a guitar for their summer festival tour of 2011, all through the summer the guitar was seen on stages all over spain. For Austin this gives him the opportunity to play an instrument of quality that will surely help him improve and grow his playing style. This opportunity comes at a time when he is about to launch his first band “ MAGNETIK SURF”, formed in Caravaca they will soon be playing throughout the region with their own style of classic surf rock with a Murcian edge. Apart from his band he has forged great relationships with many musicians in Spain and Murcia and not a week goes by without him joining someone onstage somewhere in the area. Austin says that he hopes this great chance will enable him to play with more artists and will be a benefit to all his musical buddies as well, maybe one day they will all play a Custom Guitar Lab instrument. He plans to go into the studio soon to record with his group and hopefully these recordings along with his YouTube channel will give more people the opportunity to listen to his music. Only time will tell if he was really born to be a musician, but the signs are looking good.
