Mad Agony

The first incarnation of the Mad Agony dates back to 1991. Mad Massimo Zanetti (vocals), Samael Von Martin (guitar), Marco Vettore (bass-guitar) and Stefano Argenti (drums) are the first components. The different experiences and musical influences are included in the composition of the first pieces making them difficult to be placed in a specific genre, but always in a classic metal sphere. In December 1992, the band released the demo tape “The only way to die” which includes four songs: “From the Darkness”, “Boundaries of death”, “Back in town!” and “Mad Agony”. In Mad Agony's live concerts, they got a good local following and are appreciated for their frank and direct image and music with no frills. Also Carlo De Toni, a talented guitarist who helped to give a more thrash and technical print to the Paduan combo, joined the band. In 1993, the band and Samael decided to go on separate ways. The guitarist will give rise to important projects in the black metal (Evol, Satanel, Death Dies among the others), while Max, Marco and Carlo, also orphans of Stefano, who joined the cover band Serpenti Sonori, recruited the young Cristian Rampazzo behind the drums. The drastic change in the line-up leads to the creation of some good songs but the old feelings and the originality are lost and Max and Marco decided to indefinitely suspend the activities of the band. In 2000, there were several, even if sporadic and unsuccessful attempts to restart. In 2012, Max and Samael finally gave new life to the Paduan band with the mission to bring back the metal movement in Padua, where they have become one of the bands of reference for old and new talents. Demian De Saba, an expert drummer always present in Samael's bands over the last twenty years, is now behind the drums. Babetz (ex-Hippy Killers) joined the band as second guitarist and Matteo Meneghel (Mandala, Sette Volte Sette) covered the position of bass-player to temporarily give support to the band. Then, with the arrival of Dario Dugo (Serenade) to the bass-guitar the line-up seemed to be stable but in July 2013 he left the band after few gigs and recording the bass parts for the first CD of the Mad Agony. He has been replaced by Mega Die (Metastasi, Desdaemona). From January to September 2013, the Mad Agony recorded their first full-length “Chernobitch” mixed by Alex De Rosso and produced by the band itself. Currently they are working on new songs and play all around Italy to present their CD. NOTES: Mad Agony are the organizers of the “Padova Metal Fest”, in its third edition in 2014. Three days of metal with Italian and international bands. La prima incarnazione dei Mad Agony risale al 1991. Massimo Mad Zanetti (vocals), Samael Von Martin (chitarra), Marco Vettore (basso) e Stefano Argenti (Batteria) ne sono i primi componenti. Le diverse esperienze e influenze musicali di ciascuno di loro confluiscono nella composizione dei primi pezzi rendendoli difficilmente collocabili in un genere ben preciso, sempre comunque in un classico ambito metal. Nel dicembre 1992 la band pubblica il demotape "The only way to die" che comprende quattro canzoni: "From the Darkness", "Boundaries of death", "Back in town!" e "Mad Agony". Nei concerti live i Mad Agony si creano un buon seguito locale e sono apprezzati per la loro immagine schietta e la loro musica diretta e senza fronzoli. Si unisce alla band anche Carlo De Toni, talentuoso chitarrista che contribuisce a dare un’impronta più thrash e tecnica al combo padovano. Nel 1993 Samael e la band divorziano. Il chitarrista darà vita a importanti progetti in ambito black metal (Evol, Satanel, Death Dies tra gli altri) mentre Max e Marco e Carlo orfani pure di Stefano, che si unisce alla cover band Serpenti sonori, reclutano un giovane Cristian Rampazzo dietro le pelli. Il drastico cambio di line-up porta alla realizzazione di alcune belle canzoni ma l'antico feeling e l'originalità sono perdute e Max e Marco decidono di sospendere a tempo indeterminato l'attività della band. Nel corso degli anni duemila sono diversi, pur se sporadici e infruttuosi, tentativi di ricominciare. Nella primavera del 2011 Max e Samael ridanno finalmente vita al combo padovano con la mission di riportare in auge il movimento metal padovano, di cui sono diventati attualmente una delle bands di riferimento per vecchie e nuove leve. Dietro le pelli si piazza Demian de Saba, esperto drummer sempre presente nelle bands di Samael negli ultimi vent’anni. Alla seconda chitarra arriva Babetz (ex-Hippy Killers) e al basso arriva Matteo Meneghel (ex-Mandala, Sette Volte Sette) a dare temporaneamente man forte alla band. Con l’arrivo di Dario Dugo (Serenade) al basso la line-up sembra finalmente essere stabile ma nel luglio 2013 quest’ultimo lascia la band dopo una manciata di concerti e la registrazione delle parti di basso nel primo cd dei Mad Agony. Lo sostituisce Mega Die (Metastasi, Desdaemona), tuttora in formazione. Da gennaio a settembre 2013 i Mad Agony registrano il loro primo full-lenght “Chernobitch” mixato da Alex De Rosso e prodotto dalla band stessa. Attualmente sono al lavoro sul nuovo materiale e girano l’Italia per presentare il loro cd. NOTE: I Mad Agony sono gli organizzatori del “Padova Metal Fest”, giunto nel 2014 alla terza edizione. 3 giorni di metal con bands italiane e internazionali.
