Lily Bee

Lily Bee's musical style reflects her lighthearted nature yet carries the weight of a broad life experience. At twenty-three, she has completed a full marathon, written and directed a musical, been the coordinator of a hip-hop dance team, worked on Capitol Hill, and served in AmeriCorps. Citing jazz standards as a key influence, Lily Bee aims to redefine jazz for a younger generation of listeners. Her debut album Daydream at Midnight has nostalgic, romantic leanings that make jazz relevant and palatable to contemporary ears. The album features instruments conventional and unconventional to the songwriter regimen - ranging from guitar, piano, bass, and drums to ukulele, djembe, trumpet, trombone, and cello. The single "They Don't Make 'Em Like You" is a feel-good tune that will transport you to ocean shores on a sunny day. "I Wouldn't Mind" is a reggae-infused song about overlooking the bad things in life in the name of love. Inspired by Disney Pixar's feature film, "Up" is an homage to Carl and Ellie's and a tribute to seemingly impossible dreams. To broaden the spectrum, "Days Like These" is a bossa nova song that will make you "hum and swoon." "Where the Meanings Are" is a folk-acoustic ukulele song that was written in the middle of an open field amidst fireflies and stars. The organic sound of the album is perfect for an introspective and reflective day and subliminally encourages you to take another look at life, on the bright side. Lily Bee has done performances in Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia, New York, and California. Venues include small intimate cafes to larger spaces such as the Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles, the White House Department of the Interior, and the Kennedy Center in Washingon, D.C. She has also done radio performances in New York and California.
