Ligia Hojda

Ligia Hojda is a singer and songwriter born and raised in the beautiful Maramures County, northern Romania. She got discovered during the 4th season of The Voice of Romania. The sensitive and emotional performances of such powerful songs as “Wrecking ball”, “I dreamed a dream” or “My immortal” sent her straight into the semifinals. Despite the fact that she was not the winner, she has definitely blown everybody away with her powerful, yet emotional voice. Right after the show ended, Ligia has started writing her own songs and is currently working on her first album. “Fire Gun”, her first single, was co-written with the talented producer Viky Red (Otherside) and released in December 2016. Ligia Hojda is constantly touring in Romania, where she opened for top pop and pop rock acts such as Vama and Carla’s Dreams. She headlined many important events in Bucharest in locations such as Beraria H or Hard Rock Café and performed at Shine Festival and Cluj Napoca Days, among other festivals. When it comes to the genuine love for music, she takes inspiration from her family, who was always keen on learning and experiencing different forms of art & cultures. In her former years, it was her mother who took care of her musical education. Afterwards, her father – a huge a folk music lover, took over her mother’s efforts and first taught her and all her sisters to play guitar. Ligia first performed on a stage when she was aged 7 alongside with her sister, Maria Hojda. During middle school, she has meticulously studied guitar and piano at the Music & Plastic Arts School from Sighetu-Marmatiei. Later, during high school, she started focusing on mathematics and computer science but kept singing with Maria at school events, as opening acts at concerts and county fairs in their hometown. In addition, she participated to some singing contests such as the highly notorious Romanian Mamaia Music Festival or the National Festival of Francophone Music, where she won third place. While in college, she has sung only rarely and in small, intimate groups. But since her passion for music and her childhood dream of becoming a true artist never ceased, in 2014 she auditioned for The Voice of Romania. Ligia joined Tudor Chirila’s team (one of the most popular rock singers in Romania) and made it to the semifinal. This experience has strengthened her desire to make music professionally and to communicate to the people all the excitement, beauty and her joy of playing.
