Kirk Baldwin

I was born and raised in the Chicago area and lived there until 1985 when I moved to Albuquerque New Mexico. I had a interest in music at an early age, taking up cornet and choir at age 10 in 5th grade, continuing through 8th grade, when I was first cornet first chair much of the time. I started playing guitar in 7th grade in 1964 and writing songs soon after. I played my first gig in 1967 when I was 14. My musical inerests began with early 60's folk music, and gravitated toward rock, soul, country and blues. My blues-rock band Beats Workin' came together in 1968 at Twin Lakes WI where we all had summer homes. We rehearsed, got some gigs, and recorded for the 1st time in 1971, an original song of mine. In the 70's my interests branched into Country and Bluegrass. My gigging increased at this time, and I also became a guitar teacher for a few years at Fox Frets in Geneva IL, and took up mandolin, dobro, banjo, autoharp and dulcimer. In 1985, my wife Barbara and I moved to Albuquerque NM where I became a fixture in the Albuquerque music scene and the Southwest circuit. I began a long association with the Caravan East nightclub with stints as a house band with Rare Breed-Steer Crazy-Restless and also Brushfire, and warming up for shows by such artists as Asleep At The Wheel, Eddy Raven, Ray Price, Gene Watson, Razzie Bailey, Neil McCoy, Little Texas, and more. I still played there regularly with Quartermoon until November 2016 when it closed. I also worked at Winfield Recording Studio frequently in the 90's, recording commercials, backing other artists, and recording the work of other songwriters. In 2010 Beats Workin' recorded 24/7, an all original album of Rockin' Blues currently available at CD Baby. I also have several videos on YouTube including Mother Road, I Don't Need These Blues, and a Christmas Blues, Merry Christmas Baby, shot by JD Strait. Mother Earth Is Blue was shot near Twin Lakes WI. I've been affiliated with BMI since 2010. Quartermoon also has several videos on YouTube live from the Wild Pony in Los Lunas NM, two of which are on my ReverbNation profile page. I will be a Reverb Nation featured artist for the weeks of 9/26 and 10/24/17.
