"Johnny is a virtuoso..."--Brian Wilson
"A delightful entertainer"--earcandy.com
"On stage, Johnny's like a white James Brown." Clyde Stubblefield, legendary drummer for James Brown
Blair is known for his "maverick pop," a mix of old school soul, psychedelia, punk/new wave, and melodicism breathed by classical, gospel, jazz, and world beat. Goldmine Magazine said his music is “pop music with a conscience." Urban humor, romantic abstraction, and bittersweet spirituality are images in Blair’s lyrics. He adds, “Here's my job description: Play songs that feed the soul and play them with passion. I hope to pass some of that to the audience.”
Blair has worked a variety of artists, including John Bechdel (Ministry), Beyondo, Mike Garson (David Bowie), Prairie Prince (Todd Rundgren), and Chris von Sneidern. Most visibly, Blair worked with Davy Jones of The Monkees, producing & performing on most of Jones's projects (and tours) from 1993 until Jones's passing in 2012. Blair also toured internationally with The Monkees on their 2011 reunion tour.
