Summer of 2007 – The Fuggins Wheat Band started out as “Joey Farr and Friends”. They booked and played quite a few events throughout the winter of 2007/2008, and by spring of 2008, they had set out to start touring outside of their immediate region. The band started to take on more and more work, and with much discussion from the “Friends ” (mainly founding bassist Mikey Chronister) it was decided that “Joey Farr and Friends” was bland for a band name, so “Joey Farr and Friends” would eventually become “Joey Farr and The Fuggins Wheat Band” The idea has been simple throughout the years. It’s no secret that Joey Farr has been one of the main driving forces behind every project he’s ever been involved with. His passion for his music is simply unparalleled. As many musicians can relate, keeping a band together is hard work. Not everyone can commit to touring or spending months in a studio cutting records. He wanted to be able to put all of his focus on one project and not have it fall apart within a few years. This has allowed for many line-up changes throughout the years. If you’re just now discovering Joey Farr and the Fuggins Wheat Band, you’d be amazed by the talent this band has featured in years past, the blind nationwide tours they’ve embarked upon over the years, the artist they’ve shared stages with, and the stories that can be told. At one time, they were averaging 120+ shows per year through Colorado, Idaho, California, Oregon, Utah, Montana, Missouri, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Illinois, Arizona, and of course, Arkansas. They were once the featured Wednesday night house band at Sticky’z Chicken Shack in Little Rock. They’ve headlined several regional festivals and many reputable charity events over the years. During these years, Joey has formed and performed with several bands: WHURM, Trip Seven , Stella Luss (Little Rock), Joey Farr Band, The Fuggins Wheat Band, Freak Speely, Isayah’s All Stars, Crazy Neighbor, Brick Fields, A Garth Brooks Experience (Branson Tribute Show) Joey has laid roots in Fayetteville, AR, Fort Smith, AR, Little Rock, AR, Denver, CO, Boise/Moscow, ID, and Seattle, WA music scenes. During these past 10 years, Joey has been working hard on putting together an official debut release. While Joey has put out a “Joey Farr and the Fuggins Wheat Band – A Collection of Demos” in 2008, “Whurm- Live in Idaho” in 2009, “WHURM – Live at the Whisky A GO GO DVD” in 2010, and a multitude of singles, demos, and releases throughout the years, to this day, there has not been an official studio debut release. That’s not to say the band hasn’t been working on one for quite some time. The writing, recording, and production of the music was never the issue. The issue was that Joey is super critical of everything he touches, and he never felt like the music was ready to be pushed on a nationwide/worldwide level. As John Lennon said “Life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans”. As Joey will say “I feel like I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life trying to find a stable enough environment in order to put the time that is needed into this record”. Well, here we are. The release date for “Looking Out for Dry Land” is set for June 22nd, 2017. We’re real excited about this one. Joey says it while he did most of the tracking for this, the record will feature a few different members throughout the past 10 years. The bulk of this record will feature the late Shane Bailey, original founding drummer who played with the band during spring/summer 2008, and was also hired for studio work in 2010 when Joey was considering taking a record deal with Reliant Records. Shane Bailey passed away June 15th, 2013. This record is being released near the 4 year anniversary of his death, and it will be one of the first major studio releases to feature his incredible talent behind the drums. There will be 3 release parties being held in 3 different cities. The first will be held at 21 West End in Fort Smith, June 18th, 2017, The Second will be held at George’s Majestic Lounge in Fayetteville, AR June 23rd, 2017 the third will be held at Four Quarter Bar in North Little Rock, AR June 24th, 2017.
