Jeff Hudson is a professional musician, singer/songwriter, keyboardist, bassist, trumpet player, arranger, and producer, having played very actively and most every genre of music, over the course of his life. Jeff has now played music for 55 years! He has played out Live with bands of many different genres, in various roles & on different instruments, for 43 years, and has years of recording experience, as well. Jeff is from the Indianapolis area, originally, but lived and played actively in Boston and New England for 30 years. He has been back home, playing in Indy now for 13 years. He is now, and has been for many years, primarily a keyboardist/singer/songwriter. In terms of his songwriting, although he has his own "original sound", you could probably most closely compare his originals to the progressive rock supergroup, Asia, or to Styx or Kansas. Jeff has been writing his own music since late in HS, but began to do so, much more, while at the prestigious Berklee College of Music, and after, in the Boston area. Jeff's original music can range from traditional rock, to more complex, well-conceived progressive rock, with major influences such as Yes, Genesis, Asia, Kansas, Rush, and Styx. His music has elements of all of these, yet a sound all it's own. It can be very orchestrated, big and full, with interplay between the keyboards & guitar, meaningful lyrics, rich vocal harmonies, with interesting rhythms and accents. Music where talented musicians can appreciate the level of musicianship involved to play it, how it is constructed, and yet vocal themes with strong musical hooks, that can catch the ear of the average listener, who can appreciate good music! But, definitely not your "average" rock n' roll! In Boston, in the mid 80's, Jeff had his own original band, Mirage, which played many of the best clubs in Boston, got radio airplay, and positive written reviews in the arts & entertainment mag of the day. Jeff wrote all the songs, also co-writing a few with guitarist, Paul DiCristina, of Mirage. He was the lead singer, and keyboardist. Some of those songs performed by Mirage, and later done with the band, Nextz, are available to be heard here on Reverb Nation. However, Jeff has also written originals for the Boston band, Two Fisted Tales, in a totally different genre than what he had written for his own band. More 80's alternative, and similar to Peter Gabriel, and The Talking Heads, etc. Jeff began playing piano at age 6, and is still playing very actively, today. He has played music of many genres, classical, jazz, fusion, big band, classic rock, progressive rock, R&B, funk, soul, reggae, southern rock, country, country rock, folk, hard rock, and 80's hair metal. Jeff has played with the Boston area bands: Equinox, Dionysus, Challenger, Stefan Fisher of The Platters, Mirage, Two Fisted Tales, The Robert A. Band, Nextz, DHL, Soul Ambition, Joyful, Stilburnin (Southern rock tribute), and Robert Callender. Indy area bands: Acoustic duo of Mike Ginsberg & Jeff Hudson, Acoustic trio of Jim Durrett, Marc Gilvin & Jeff Hudson, Ol' Skool, KikAxe (Classic rock & country), 100 Proof, Red Alert (Rush tribute), The Outsiders (Contemporary country), GlamericA (80's hair metal tribute), Zero Day (Classic rock), Blue River Band (country), State of Mind (Variety covers). Jeff is currently playing with 6 Indy cover bands: Southern Rock Authority (Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute), Outrider (Contemporary country), Allies (Variety covers), Pop Rocks Heroes (80's pop-rock tribute), GlamericA (80's hair metal tribute), and Coyote 5.0 (Cover rock). During his long career, Jeff has been in bands who have opened for national and international bands and artists, such as: Badfinger, Styx, Def Leppard, Tesla, Extreme, Til Tuesday, Thee Rock n' Roll Residency (members of Cinderella and others), and Mike Tramp (of White Lion). While looking to continue playing in top level bands locally around Indy and the state of Indiana, Jeff will continue to pursue recording his existing original songs, as well as producing newer, even stronger material, taking advantage of his many years of musical study & playing at a very high level, with the best bands, of varying genres, and with some truly phenomenal musicians!
