Jay Ables
Jay Ables hails from NYC and was exposed to the diversification of music by his family. “There was always music playing in our house,” he said. His father loved the blues and movie themes, while his mother was a jazz enthusiast. “My mother's tastes ruled the house,” Ables explained. “She listened to it all.” The eclectic range of music heard in his home ran the gauntlet from Sinatra, Bobby Darrin, Aretha, Grover Washington, and Marvin Gaye. “James Brown was an amazing dancer and vocalist in his own right,” enthused Ables. “He captivated the audience by what he was doing on stage.” Jay Ables also credits the musicians that James Brown utilized in his recordings and live performances for bringing that James Brown sound to the forefront. “This is what I want to accomplish; to bring the audience and the musicians to the party. Everybody is welcome.” Jay Ables reminisces about the first time he saw Michael Jackson sing the song “ ABC”. “I would stand in front of the TV and try to emulate his moves,” Jay stated. “He was amazing.” Jackson was the motivator that Jay credits for daring him to be different from the norm. “His creativity inspired me.” Jay has performed with several local bands and appeared at the Gasparilla Festival in Tampa, St.Petersburg Pier, Cotee River Blues Festival, Rocktember Festival, and Night in the Tropics Festival with many other personal appearances. "I'm not trying to bring Ol Skool forward, I'm just trying to bring the fun back," Jay Ables happily explained.
