Insomniac Funk

Artist Bio Insomniac Funk is a hip hop group from Regina Saskatchewan, Canada, an area not noted for its hip-hop scene. Nonetheless, they hone their skills in Beat-Making, MC’ing and host the city’s longest running Hip Hop radio show on the FM dial. Insomniac Funk offers messages of love, fun, hope, and family in an era of hip hop music tainted by lyrics filled with violence, hate and negativity. Artist Somfunk Profile: How did you get started? I fell in love with hip hop in the early nineties and started playing around with making beats and rhyming with my friends when i was younger. When my friends and I first started out we we're mostly making beats by Overdubbing on cassette, a friend of mine figured out you could tweak the recording mechanism on any old cassette player so that it would record over the original track but not erase it, we made all kinds of crazy mixes and beats doing this. We were all poor so we always came up with unique ways to make hip hop without equipment, things like rhyming into headphones and voice-mail machines. I think my vision of hip hop was always about friends having a good time, i try to express that in my music. What are your fondest musical memories? In your house? In your neighborhood or town? I enjoy programming for live radio with, I like picking and choosing songs, digging up old gems, and just hanging out with my family listening to music. What are you music goals? I just want to make music that people enjoy, music should be about enjoyment, that's what i got out of music growing up now I'm just giving back.
