Emma Walsh
Music has always been a constant in my life. No matter what is going on, good or bad, I always have music to turn to and can vent through songwriting. I don't remember life before music because I started begging my parents for piano lessons at age three. Through the years of exploring musical genres and instruments (piano, guitar, percussion, and singing), I’ve always been asked what instrument I like playing the most, but I don't think its a matter of what instrument I am playing. I find the most joy when playing any form of music and especially when I am able to perform it for a crowd. My purpose for writing songs is not only to have an outlet for creativity and to share little parts of myself with the world through 3-5 minute segments, but to change or rather influence the hearts and minds of those listening. All of the songs that I write are based on real life experiences or my crazy imagination. All my life I’ve wanted to do things my own way and create something to share and through songwriting, I can do that. The strongest role model in my life for songwriting is Norah Jones. I first knew that I wanted to sing and write songs when I watched her perform on Good Morning America when I was 5 years old. I have received most of my musical taste from my parents, and for that, I am deeply rooted in classic rock and 80’s punk rock music. I like to think that this, as well as my educational background in jazz, latin american, and classical styles, plus my surroundings of country music from growing up in the heart of Texas, have helped form my singer-songwriter style that includes hints of rock and country. Just over a year ago I went to an Indigo Girls concert with my mom. The moment they sang “Closer to Fine”, the electricity was tangible. Everyone sang along to every single word, and in that moment nothing else mattered. I knew that was what I wanted, to get the chance to bring people together from all kinds of races, religions, and sexes through music. I finished creating my second EP Just For Me just over a year ago. It is comprised of five songs that were written between 2016-2017. I am excited to say that two of those songs, Good Grief and Lover of Mine, have been featured on Amy Miller’s Local Show on North Texas’s KXT radio station! I also made it to the Top 10 in the Nash Next Country Music Competition with my song Lover of Mine. You can find Just For Me on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, and Youtube.
