Celtic Machinations

Once upon a time, a man and his daughter started a Celtic duo and named it after themselves: Jim and Holly Lawrence. By themselves and oftimes with good friend Mark Davis, they played at local pubs and festivals. They recorded three CDs: Of Gaels and Saints, Celtic Harmonies and Caledonian Shadows, the last of which garnered a nomination for Best Traditional Folk Album by the now defunct Washington Area Music Association (WAMA). Mark eventually left the fold and was replaced by lovely Lauren Smith, who brought an extensive catalog of fiddles tunes and a great deal of energy to the ensemble. Meanwhile, Holly, married and with her husband started a family. Together, they sought opportunities outside the area and moved. Jim and Lauren soldiered on as a Celtic duo, choosing the moniker Celtic Machinations. They recorded a CD, Spare Parts, which also garnered a nomination from WAMA. In the meantime, Lauren undertook more singing duties to replace the void left by Holly’s departure. She has since developed into a wonderful singer, sometimes angelic and sometimes sultry. Holly has since returned to the area and rejoined the fold, making it a trio once again. Together, they bring beautiful solo vocals, beautiful ensemble singing and energetic fiddles tunes with attitude!
