BISCAY

Biscay comprise 4 jazz/funk/prog instrumentalists who write songs about the human condition set to a dizzying range of genres. Using a range of vocalists (chosen to suit each song), this is a deliberately diverse formula. It’s a formula which seems to work given Biscay are 2-time winners of the UK Songwriting Competition (amongst others – see below). We have released 7 new songs in 2025 and have two more imminent for 2026. Biscay’s first EP release was ‘Burnt Mementos‘ in April 2017, followed by a second EP ‘Stare At The Sun’ in March 2020. Through the pandemic lockdowns a further 5 singles were released. Biscay's music combines dark, misanthropic and sardonic messages with uplifting melodies and funky grooves. Biscay make acid jazz for the analytic, funk for flag-bearers and nu-soul for neurotics. Theirs is yacht-rock for stormy seas. The line up is: Richard Beardmore – Bass Kris Chase-Byrne – Keys Phil Danter – Guitar Ben Haines – Drums Their awards include: 2 times Category Winners in the UK Songwriting Contest plus 8 further placements, nominated as finalists in both the NewSong Music and USA songwriting competitions, and nominated twice in the Independent Music Awards for best Jazz EP and song.
