Aren Bruce

Singer/songwriter Aren Bruce combines thought-provoking poetic lyrics with a lighthearted mix of pop, soul, and jazz to bring music that both soothes and inspires. As a young boy he was always finding some way to make music, whether that was beat-boxing, humming, or singing. He's always had a song on his heart that fought its way out through the music (noise) he made. In junior high he picked up with guitar lessons and took to learning covers of popular songs and music his parent's played around the house. As a high school student, he developed my stage presence leading out in praise & worship, and eventually began to perform increasingly for talent competitions and special events in and out of school. As his collection of original music grew, he decided to compile them into his first complete album and host an album release concert on his college campus to share and celebrate. That was the first of several publications he released during his time in college. Each song, album, and concert he prepared nurtured his ability to express his heart convictions and lead the listener toward an ultimate realization that God is good and deserves our total devotion. This truth is so immensely important to him that it even transcends the art he creates and consumes my whole life. As a partner of summer camp ministries, he worked as a worship director and commissioned songwriter for the camp theme songs. He's also had the opportunity to teach workshops on songwriting and perform for a wide variety of private events. By far, though, he has the most fun taking weekend trips to the beach where he sings and plays on the boardwalk for tips, interacting with the locals and soaking up the atmosphere. Even after so many years of songwriting, leading, and performing, he would be remiss to ignore the fact that he is still evolving as a musician and a lyricist. Every passing moment is a gift from God, my creator, and brings new opportunities to be humbled and learn from his words to us. Those words inform his experiences, which shape his perspective, and that perspective fuels the nuance that you may perceive in the music he shares. His early influences were artists such as Kirk Franklin, Steven Curtis Chapman, Bryan Duncan, John Stoddart, and Keb'Mo. As he began to develop my own crossover style, he drew from the pop-soul sounds of John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Sam Cooke, and Youtube artist Gabe Bondoc. His sound now sits somewhere in the Venn diagram of singer-songwriter, pop-soul, and blues, and he regularly enjoys the creations of artists like Allen Stone, Leon Bridges, and Jonathan McReynolds.
