Having been brought up on the beautiful Island of Barra (Outer Hebrides), where traditional gaelic/celtic music was a great influence on me, I spent my younger days playing the Clarsach (Scottish Harp) and singing solo and with gaelic choirs (Ceol Mara and the Clarsach Singers). My celtic heritage can be traced back several generations directly to Gilleonan MacNeil who was the 17th MacNeil of Barra ( 37th Clan Chief - c. 17th Century). I have entertained at many ceilidhs and events on Barra, Uist, Vatersay, Stornoway, France, Ireland, Glasgow and Edinburgh. I enjoyed playing and singing at events such as Fiddlers’ Rally, Kelvin Hall Arena (for Secretary of State for Scotland, George Younger), Festival Ceilidh for the Clarsach Society (Edinburgh), STV’s ‘That’s the Spirit, The Clan MacNeil Gathering, Edinburgh, The Royal College of Surgeons, sang welcome address in Gaelic to Pope John Paul II at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh. My recent years have been spent singing with a Band called Traigh Mhor, performing for charity and local events and running music workshops for the local children. I have recorded a number of my own original songs (Going Home, Some Day, Little Blue Bird, O' Nach Till Sinn and Rhythm of your Heart - Copyright Anne E MacNeil) along with traditional songs like Kisimul's Galley and Maol Runaidh that I have performed on stage.
