Named for the Mersey River that runs through Liverpool, England (birthplace of the Beatles), the Merseymen have been entertaining audiences in the Dallas area since 2012. Formed through a mutual love of Beatles music, they quickly discovered a mutual admiration of other artists’ music such as the Eagles, Matchbox 20 and the Gin Blossoms. The Merseymen enjoy performing classic songs from the rock and roll era. Originally created as an acoustic-electric trio, the Merseymen have evolved over the last few years into a fuller sounding rock and roll band. The basic lineup of guitars, bass and drums is occasionally augmented by keyboards. All three singers/guitarists double on bass. In addition to songs by the Beatles and the Eagles, the Merseymen’s repertoire includes songs from artists as diverse as the Old 97’s to Van Morrison, from Eric Clapton to the Everly Brothers, from Wilson Pickett to the Smithereens, and from Jimmy Buffet to the Rolling Stones. They released their first Cd “Have Mersey!” in 2012 containing 12 songs from artists such as the Traveling Wilburys, Jimmy Buffett, the Eagles and the Beatles. In 2013, they released a CD single with a cover of the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes’ song “Home”. In 2016 they began recording songs at the legendary January Sound Studio for their next cd “Happenstance”. Completed songs include Billy Joel’s “You May Be Right”, the Gin Blossom’s “Hey Jealousy” and Tom Petty’s “You Wreck Me”.
