SK
Stanley S. Keets, Jr., better known by his stage name SK, was born on February 4, 1983, in Indianapolis, IN. As a child, SK grew up listening to artists such as Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye and The Temptations. When SK was 12, he attended Gambold Middle School where he learned to play the saxophone. Once SK entered Broad Ripple High School, the instruments were no longer an interest and SK turned to poetry, thanks to his English teacher. At the age of 16, SK joined Trajik and Conte to form the Raww Dawgz. The Raww Dawgz started with a pre-release of the album, Murderous Poetry, which was an instant success and was followed by the official release of the album in 2001. “Murderous Poetry” gained the group a lot of credibility locally just by selling CDs out of their backpacks or wherever there were people. Soon after, SK decided to leave home and go to school at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN, majoring in Math with an Art minor. While in college, SK did not have the resources to get back and forth for studio sessions with the Raww Dawgz so he was not on any other releases from the Raww Dawgz. SK met a few inspiring artists while in college and found a way to record a few songs with other artists. In 2003, SK came back home and attended school at IUPUI with an intention to major in Mechanical Engineering. Indianapolis was where SK wanted to be but the familiar surroundings made it hard for SK to keep focus on school. SK dropped out of college and worked at the YMCA. In 2005, SK decided to combine his love for art with his love for cars, and attended Lincoln Technical Institute for Collision, Repair and Refinish. While there, SK met up with Kriptik and began to record music once again, this time as a solo artist. SK set up a recording studio in his apartment and completed the albums Raww Wit No Flawz, Somethin’ On The Side and Me Being Me, all of which were never publically distributed due to his lack of confidence. At the time, music was used as a way for SK to vent and stay at ease. In 2009, SK decided he was ready to make a career out of his music. SK signed on as an artist under the up and coming label Game Face Entertainment where he would once again be alongside former Raww Dawgz member, Trajik. SK started off with an introductory mixtape called, In My Zone, in January 2010 and was followed by, Inferno, in August 2010. Inferno received a great buzz locally and SK was on the cover of local magazine and listed as the featured artist in others. SK was also the first artist to be showcased on the local radio station’s website segment known as Naptown’s Next. With the start of 2011, SK decided to depart from Game Face Entertainment but not before leaving behind the farewell project, End Of The Beginning: The Greatest Edition, in collaboration with DJ Pimp Cee of the Greatest DJ’s. Leaving Game Face Entertainment was one of the hardest decisions SK had to make but SK knew that it needed to happen in order to create his own musical direction. SK has learned some of the business and has signed himself as a solo artist and as one-half of B.F.A.M. with Kriptik to the label, Divine Mind Entertainment Group. Under Divine Mind Entertainment Group, SK has released a mixtape titled #featuringSK, which features SK on industry songs made by some of his favorite artists. While the mixtape was not a primary focus, SK has started to reveal a little information on the upcoming album simply titled, Seventy-Five, which is “SK” on a standard dial pad. The only information confirmed is that SK and the band, Souled Out 7, have teamed up in 2012 and the entire album will consist only of live instruments. The members of Souled Out 7 are Herchelle McGuire playing the keys, Justin Brewer on the drums, Joe Harrison playing lead guitar, Greg Squires playing bass and Allison Irvine on the violin. Although there is no release date for the album, Seventy-Five has a great lead off with the single track, "Change", that has earned SK the title as the top songwriter in the songoftheyear.com’s songwriting contest. With the path SK is on, it will only be a matter of time before he has touched the minds and hearts of the world.
