BIOGRAPHY - OUT OF PLUMB lives at the intersection of Rock, Funk & Soul. It all started with moth-eaten fur coats cut up into vests (donated by my girlfriend's mom) that ATTILA & THE HUNS (Russ Lake, Doug Lee & John Anfibolo) sported at 13 years of age in the summer of '63. I stayed with the band for about a year before they evolved and migrated to Sacramento. They opened once for JIMI HENDRIX at a local club (just before he broke big in the summer of '67) after he was kicked off the tour as the opener for THE MONKEES, when the "powers that be" realized what a mistake that was. I got into folk music, played at THE FILLMORE a couple of times times and pursued other interests until RUSHIN RIVER started up ('69 - '72). We had a ton of fun playing gigs like THE FAMILY DOG, PALACE THEATER (opening up for THE COCKETTES) and shows up & down the San Francisco Peninsula. From Burlingame to Palo Alto, we were one of the bands called whenever there was a free concert, demonstration or a benefit like the 2nd Earth Day. Or like when the Palo Alto peace movement shut down University Avenue one night in front of Lytton Plaza on August 8th, 1970 with a flatbread truck/stage in response to the riot downtown 2 weeks prior where 400+ peaceful protestors were beaten and arrested. OCEOLA started the night off and we followed up as police with riot guns on the surrounding rooftops appraised the situation below. After about 45 minutes of our set, I suddenly and angrily stomp off towards the makeshift backstage with the rest of the band following behind me puzzled-ly. One of the protest organizers went to the mike and says: “The band will be right back, the guitarist just broke a string.” Five minutes later, the organizer returns and announces: “The show’s actually over, folks, but we needed you to hang around for a few minutes. The ‘broken string’ was just a ruse to give us enough time to get RUSHIN RIVER out of here. We got the word that the ‘City Fathers’ didn’t want another riot on their hands so they’d decided to let you folks calmly disperse and then the police would quietly arrest the band.” Ahhh, the good old days... In the late 70's I stopped following my own muse and started a small indie label, KING SPOT, in order to work behind the scenes with other artists, most notably STU BLANK and MAN MACHINE. In 2001 I got back to doing my own music. My first release was NECK STOP in 2004 under the moniker of HOO WUT Y. My second album, WELCOME TO MOTHERLODE, came out in 2012 when I changed the band name to WHEELHOUSE. The latest album came out in 2015 on the CD - HIGH TIDE IN PARADISE with the band now named OUT OF PLUMB.   I love to sing but I'm primarily a songwriter/instrumentalist and love to hear a great vocalist make my songs soar. Thankfully, four amazing Santa Cruz vocalists, Naomi Wilder, Russ Leal, Stephen Snyder and Tammi Brown, made that happen on the last 2 albums. SONG CREDITS (cont.)
