About

Undergang was formed in 1996 and performed for a few years, before going on indetermined haitus. Reforming in 2004, the band started writing new material. Being the product of a number of existing local Syracuse original bands, members each bring their diverse ideas to the creative process.
Undergang is a guitar heavy band, and Nathan Angell is the main ax-man. Joe Dirienzo was the original songwriter, with input from Alan Smead. After getting back together, everyone was bringing ideas to the table. Joe left in '05, but did play on the first CD ('06). Along on the CD is Tim Wood (search myspace for the Timothy Wood Band in Syracuse to be pleasantly amazed). He plays the solo on Six Twenty Six. Tim played quite a few gigs with the band, and is always welcome. Tim left as he is a busy musician, with great projects...so Coleman Edwards joined, bringing his personal touch to the music. Coleman's main bands are metal, and he is the riffmaster! Soaring harmonies, power chords and a very tasty solo (PMD) complement Undergang nicely.
In 2006 we released our self-titled CD which consisted mainly of material written in the past. Not Typical was chiefly written by bassist John Thomas, and arranged by Joe. Society's Ilk is a Stillborn cover - Alan Smead was in that band in the 80s. Al also wrote many lyrics on the first disc. In 2008, the band released their 2nd CD "Deep in a Hole", the majority of which was fresh material. By the 2nd disc, songwriting had spread to all members of the group, including Silt Hits the Land written by drummer Illin and arranged by Undergang.

Liner notes state "written by Undergang", and that is true. For to differentiate song by song entitlement, each owns a song by who wrote the lyrics, and/or main riff. Arrangement is usually a spontaneous episode. Undergang is currently writing the 3rd disc, with members bringing more complete ideas to the table for spontaneous combustion!
