Sean O’Bryan Smith is an internationally acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, award winning film composer, record producer and world renowned solo recording artist. Sean has spent the bulk of his career as a professional recording/touring bassist working with over 100 major and independent label recording artists from across the globe including Kenny Rogers, Keith Urban, Vince Gill, George Clinton and Larry Carlton. He has been seen performing live with artists on ABC, CBS, Fox, CMT, GAC and his bass work continues to be heard worldwide on major terrestrial and streaming radio stations including SiriusXM.
In 2007, Sean followed his own artist calling with his freshman solo album “Tapestry”. Featuring multiple talents including Jeff “Skunk” Baxter and Jerry Marotta, “Tapestry” received worldwide recognition and continues to be in regular rotation with radio stations in multiple countries. Similar success was found with Sean’s follow up album entitled “Reflection” featuring jazz greats Chuck Loeb, Randy Brecker and Gerald Albright. Two EPs “Quartet Da Funk” and “For Groove and Mistletoe” soon followed as well as a wealth of singles. In addition to his solo work, Sean served as part of the international jazz ensemble Kazhargan World for three critically acclaimed albums “Wonderful Times”, “Post Fiction” and “Destinations” as well as serving a 16 year/4 album run with chart topping jazz vocalist Anna Wilson.
Beginning in 2012, Sean began to pursue his lifelong love of music for film and television. This soon landed him working on projects for film makers across the US as well as Canada and India. His score for the Canadian film “Serpent’s Lullaby” was recognized at the Cannes Film Festival and he has received awards for his music in the Lionsgate distributed faith based films “Providence”, “94 Feet” and “Saving Faith”.
In 2017, Sean decided to leave Nashville, TN after two decades and relocate to Boca Raton, FL. Sean took a break from the industry but returned stronger than ever in 2019 emerging in the ambient/chill genres again performing with a number of top artists including multi-platinum composer/songwriter Jeff Franzel, Billboard chart topping jazz guitarist Frank Piombo, world music icon Chinmaya Dunster, as well as collaborations with chart topping New Age artists John Gregorius, Grammy Award winner Jim “Kimo” West, Grammy Award winner Richard Theisen, Grammy nominated Jeff Oster, Byron Metcalf, Michelle Qureshi, Billy Denk, Brannan Lane, Nacre, John Fluker, Christopher Caouette, Keith Fiala, ELEON, Matzumi, Ambiente Solstice, Andrew Schoen and five time Grammy Award winning producer/recording artist Emilsam Velazquez.
Smith also returned to film composing with two of his musical compositions being featured in the 2021 Emmy Award winning documentary film “Songbirds” from Beckett Arts Project. This led to Sean composing the complete score in 2023 for their follow up film “Beautiful Faces”which is slated for release in late fourth quarter. 2023 also saw Smith release his ninth solo studio album entitled “Musings of an Occasional Somebody” which has been heavily featured on the weekly syndicated radio show Echoes on over 400 FM stations and can be heard on streaming radio stations worldwide.
Sean is currently a signed recording artist, a featured guest artist on multiple artist projects and staff producer for the top rated ambient/new age label Wayfarer Music Group where he also serves as the chairman of their advisory board. Smith is also the staff Musical Director for the historic Boca Raton Community Church (formerly Bibletown) where he serves and uses his gifts locally to give back to the community including music outreach programs with other churches, colleges and more.
