Formed in Oldenburg ,Germany in 1997 the Anglo/German Folk duo Sandwitch quickly built up a reputation not only in Germany but also in Holland and the UK. By 2004 they were playing festivals and folk clubs throughout Europe. In 2006 they moved to Wales. (Buddy was born and raised in Yorkshire)
In 2009 they recorded their 1st UK album, their fourth from seven albums to date.
Sandwitch are Andrea and Buddy Freebury, a husband and wife duo
who play a wide selection of self penned songs, plus re-arranged Traditionals and a few covers. In the autumn of 2016 the couple moved back to Germany (partly but not only due to Brexit).
At the beginning of 2025 they were joined by percussionist and windpipe player Bernd Gründling.
Andrea’s voice has been described as “haunting and almost mystical” .She also plays guitar & Celtic harp and inspired many of Sandwitch's self penned songs.
Buddy is a multi-instrumentalist (Vocals, Guitars, Mandolins, Flutes & Woodwind, Indian Harmonium, Bass and Percussion) and co-songwriter, who together with Andrea arranges their songs.
Bernd Gründling adds to the sound with percussion and windpipe.
They now have 7 studio albums under their belts; the latest being released in 2025 which have all received critical acclaim from both radio shows and music critics throughout Europe and further afield.
They also have a double CD "Cellar Tracks" which is limited to special orders only.
In December 2025 they released two more albums on which they had been working for quite some time.
The titles are " The narrow path" and "The return of the King". Currently they are working on a winter/Christmas album which they aim to release at the end of 2026.

Whitby Folk Week Fringe Festival.
Sandwitch supported Fairport Convention twice at benefit gigs for Leonard Peltier in Groningen Holland. The have also played at the "Kultursommer" in Oldenburg, Germany, in 2002, also in Exhibition matinees, The Haller Late night Festival in Halle Westfailia along with countless Folk Clubs around England and Wales not to mention the many pubs and smaller events around the UK and Europe.
Their motto is: "No gig is too small or too big for us- we just love gigging".
Recently Sandwitch added a new band member, percussionist and wind synthesizer player Bernd Gründling.
Whenever possible they are joined on stage by violinist and bagpiper Sebastian Beermann who also features on the latest albums.

Gegründet 1997 in Oldenburg/Olb., baute das Folkduo " Sandwitch " bald einen Ruf nicht nur in Deutschland, sondern auch in Holland und GB auf.
2004 spielten sie bereits auf Festivals und in Folkclubs quer durch Europa und GB.
2006 zogen sie nach Wales um ( Buddys Wurzeln sind in Yorkshire, wo er ca. 30 Jahre lang lebte. )
2009 produzierten sie ihr erstes Studioalbum in GB ,das vierte von bisher sieben Alben.
Im Herbst 2016 zog das Paar zurück nach Deutschland. ( nicht nur wegen Brexit).

Andreas Stimme wurde als " eindringlich, fast mystisch" bezeichnet. Sie spielt außerdem Gitarre und keltische Harfe und inspirierte viele der selbst geschriebenen Stücke der Band.
Buddy ist ein Multi- Instrumentalist und Co- Songschreiber ( Gesang, Gitarren, Mandoline, Flöten und Holzblasinstrumente, Indisches Harmonium, Bass und Percussion- natürlich nicht alle gleichzeitig ;) ).
Zusammen mit Andrea arrangiert er auch die Songs.
Bernd Gründling vervollständigt den Sound mit Percussion und Windpipes.Wann immer möglich ,werden sie bei Auftritten von Sebastian Beermann mit Geige und Dudelsack begleitert, er spielte auch auf den letzten Alben mit.
Die beiden haben 7 Studioalben produziert; das letzte wurde 2025 veröffentlicht. Alle Alben haben sehr gute Rezensionen der einschlägigen Folkmusikkritiker und von Radiostationen in Großbritannien und Europa erhalten. Ihre CD´s wurden in vielen Ländern im Radio gespielt, u. a. auch in den USA.
Ein achtes Studioalbum ist in Arbeit ( watch this space ).

Sandwitch spielte Support für Fairport Convention bei einigen Benefizkonzerten für Leonard Peltier in Groningen, Holland. Außerdem traten sie beim Kultursommer in Oldenburg, bei Ausstellungseröfnungen und der Haller " Late Night" auf. Zahllose Auftritte in Folkclubs in England und Wales und unzählige Auftritte in Pubs durch England, Wales ,Holland, Belgien und Deutschland kommen noch dazu.
