ROCK GARDEN

Hello from the Rock Garden band, est. in 2010 by Terry and Zsuzsana Dawson. Our style is Rock/Powerpop/Singer-Songwriter and Folk (yes - all that LOL) with retro roots and fresh vibes. With lyrics that range from introspective and poetic to saucy and suggestive; with intricate, guitar-driven melodies and powerful, melodic vocals, jazz-influenced drums with tight rolls and fills; our style is hard to pigeonhole. For now, the question ‘who do we sound like’ remains unanswered. We give our listeners indie music at its most diverse: classic rock roots with big nods to jazz, folk and straight up blues. Rock Garden's influences are undoubtedly retro but are also fresh, relevant, edgy and daring, sharing stories we have lived, love and loss, tears, and tons of laughs. Rock Garden rocks out in Windsor, Ontario. We are mostly a songwriting/studio band, although we love to play gigs when we can. Our favourite shows are charity events and festivals, and we were honoured to be the official Highway of Heroes band in Cobourg two years running. Rock Garden founder and leader Terry Dawson has been a passionate and accomplished musician since an early age, with roots in classic rock underscored with folky and bluesy sounds, and plenty of gritty and heavy guitar. One fine day, along came Zsuzsana from far off lands, and after apprenticing as a groupie for a few months, she began co-writing and contributing keyboards and various new ideas to co-create a whole new sound. She brought with her our biggest fan and best-ever mascot, Muttsey the Rockdog, who has his own videos and Facebook page helping support Rock Garden. Zsuzsana also brought along another amazing talent, her golden-voiced guitarist nephew Adam Clarke, originally from Windsor, Ontario and now residing in west Toronto. Our sound has been hugely influenced by our very talented percussionist Ray Porrill, who has added unique personality and captivating rhythms and fills to tunes on our first 2 CDs. Our 10 song debut CD Rockdog, and 2nd CD Now, Hey were both produced by Villageworks in Toronto, and our sassy single, Happy Pants was produced by the renowned Mark Zubek, Our latest release Strawberry Moon (The Island Song) was recorded and produced at Windsor's SLR Studios. With Strawberry Moon just launched, we are preparing to do a small promo tour this summer, and see where the sunny breezes take us!
